  1. Nasty looking thing. Watch out though, if the DEC thinks they can sell extra tags they will make a new season for moles and we will fight about which existing season it gets shoved into.
  2. Some of us have cyber muscles. Back away from the computer!
  3. If you open the door even a crack the abusers will always knock it right off the hinges. Sorry.
  4. Yeah, but I bet he had to practice alot. It would be much easier to just pull the trigger of a crossgun.
  5. Not hurting anybody??? Have you ever tried to hunt state land. Hard to find a spot to scout and set up on a deer without getting stepped on by another hunter. Then the orange army comes out and forget it. This loophole lets the orange army in during archery season via abuses of the system.
  6. As written, there will be more abusers than truely disabled. Is being old a permanent disability? If I complain about shoulder tendonitis each and every year it must be permanent even though it might not be true and my doctor can't disprove my subjective complaints.
  7. Well if the Romans used them then it must be ok......wait didn't they also stone people to death, fight to the death in an arena, and nail people to crosses as punishment? Not quite sure I would use them as an example to further my agenda.
  8. I think the law should require "objective findings" of disability i.e. mri showing torn rotator cuff, emg showing pinched nerve, post surgical repair ect.... Not just some guy who has never even bowhunted when he was healthy complaining of a sudden sore shoulder and asking for a disability note.
  9. The only problem here is possible abuse of this exception. The same doctors giving bogus handicap parking stickers for a sore knee will be handing out disabled notes for a sore shoulder. If there is a subjective complaint of shoulder pain without objective findings, is the person still disabled?
  10. I don't advocate changing any of the seasons. I do have a problem with the over issuance of DMP's and nuisance permits.
  11. glad you're not in charge at the DEC. You propose 2 weeks of bow and 4 weeks of gun to improve things? It's twice or three times has hard to close the deal with a bow but you want the gun season to be twice as long? Makes no sense.
  12. Here's what happens. Places like pictures above have too many deer, maybe because it is near a private park or private property. But the DEC wants to control them so in that entire DMU every hunter gets 2 dmp's every year. The trouble is we still can't hunt in the area with alot of deer and end up shooting out the huntable land.
  13. Ruger Superblackhawk .44mag with 7" barrel and 2x Leupold scope. I've got about a dozen deer under my belt with it over the last 20yrs. It's a pleasure to carry but this year I'm considering adding some distance and might try an Encore. The .44 is good out to 100yds(my comfort range is 75' and under) so the Encore with a variable scope should get me out to 150yds comfortably. I know it would be capable of longer but the deer woods don't usually allow longer shots. Considering 7m-08 but not sure yet.
  14. sounds like a bad idea to me. climbers grab/catch because of your weight. if you step on or off it, it might just fall to the ground. invest in a lock on or just climb up and down each time.
  15. "slob" hunters. The dark side of our hunting fraternity. It's why I prefer archery season.
  16. Those look like cougar wounds to me! lol
  17. Anyone have one they would recommend? I need to replace the scope on my shotgun but would like a long eye relief. I have Leupold's but the eye relief is 3.7". Some advertise 5"&6" eye relief but I'm not sure if they are worth a darn and will hold zero. This time of year when it's cold you throw on a couple extra layers and all of a sudden you have tunnel vision when you look through the scope because the eye relief is short. At least, thats what happens to me.
  18. I received 2 in the first round and then they were just giving them away after 11/1. i just walked in and said "give me two more please".
  19. Things are fine the way they are with a couple exceptions. Bowhunters still need to be compensated for the time DEC gave gun season to open on saturday, they took away the last weekend of archery season to do that. Multiple DMP's and nuisance permits are what decimate the herd. One buck during archery and one during regular is fine if the herd is healthy and not decimated by DMP's and nuisance permits. By the way, the DEC is not interested in herd management if you attended any of the recent meetings. They are only interested IN decimating the herd to satisfy the special interest groups. In 8H they gave me 4 DMP's(which I won't fill because I can't eat 4).
  20. Sorry for your loss Doc. Most accidents happen getting in or out of your stand. I wear fall protection but not while getting in or out. this could happen to anyone.
  21. Chevy

    anyone hunt 8W?

I have a camp in Bath. Hunted there for many years. Grew up hunting painted post. Great area for big bucks.
  22. 66 or 67 all the time. Forced hot air. When I get home from work I stoke up the wood burning stove and crank it up to 76 degrees in the house for a nice warm evening. While I sleep the temps decrease and the thermostat kicks back in at 67. Cold in the morning though so I'm having one of those heater vents put in the bathroom. It kicks heat while you shower. Nothing worse than stepping out of a warm shower into an ice cold bathroom.
  23. This guy didn't run at all, he walked off and bedded up. I was just concerned because it took 10 hours before he passed.
  24. I haven't figured out how to post a picture yet. I will work on that. I always heard that if the deer is not disbatched quickly the meat is tough and/or gamey because of all the adrenaline. myth?
  25. I made a less than ideal shot on a nice buck yesterday morning. Just missed the liver and went right through the center mid section. Knowing I made a gut shot I backed out as I could see the deer bedded up immediately. I went back at 5pm and found where he had moved to but he was still alive. I watch for a while and he was done by 6:30pm. My question is, how will the venison taste after a 10 hour ordeal like that? Won't the meat be tough and full of adrenaline? I plan to make 100% burger and hopefully harvest a doe for steaks.
