send letters for crossbows in NY

Culver, adding the crossgun will not increase hunter numbers. It will only shift some gun hunters into archery season. -

These crossgun supporters will twist and grind the facts trying to fit this dam contraption into archery season. Why does when something was invented even factor in this discussion? -

Larry, then stop calling a crossbow bolt an arrow. Crossguns shoot bolts not arrows. -

I don't think crossguns will ever become legal during archery season. Legislators and the DEC have figured out that we have separate seasons for a reason and the crossgun is just being used as an impliment for the gun hunter to shift over into archery season. -

Of course there is an advantage. You need to draw and hold a bow and arrow in the presence of the game animal while the cross gun is locked and loaded. Just put the crosshairs on point and shoot just like a gun. Bottom line, crossgun is not archery equipment and belongs in the gun season. -
I do major trimming in the spring when the leaves are still down. Then in September minor trimming to get the new growth out of the way.

I heard no, and then I heard yes. So I don't know. We can even get a budget passes so how does the Gov have time for crossbow bills? -

I don't feel an aging gun hunter who never participated in the regular archery season when he was healthy should be able to use the "I'm disabled and should be allowed to use a crossbow" card. And that is alot of what I'm seeing. I feel for the guy who was a long time archer and can no longer draw because of a shoulder problem. However a gun hunter using it as an excuse to justify crossbows in archery season is shameless. I have nothing against gun hunters and actualy enjoy gun season when it rolls around. But the seasons should be kept separate. Don't dilute the season with crossguns. -
Yea, OK Larry. Have you seen the PSE AR15 crossbow. Looks like a gun to me.

Shooter, advantage has nothing to do with it. A spear has no advantage and it also should not be allowed in archery season. The issue is that nothing other than archery equipment should be used during archery season. A crossbow is not archery equipment and if you need to make comparisons it is more like a gun. If you want the disabled to use crossbows during archery season then support such a bill. Everything I have seen is pushing for total inclusion which is just not right. -signed...a guy happy with archery season as is but would prefer to go back to 10/15 opening day with regular season on monday.

WNYB, I also live near shooter supply. I gave them one look and never went back. Got a bad vibe from the shop, the pro, and the whole nonprofessionalness(if thats a word) of the place. What is the name of the Hoyt shop you mention? I don't shoot Hoyt but a good shop is hard to find. I just took my bow into Heritage in Phelps for a tune up. I don't have the bow back yet but its only been two weeks. They have a nice looking shop, appears serious, and the owner lives next door. (hard to close up and run away like the shop in Bloomfield).

We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Talk to ya latter.

Are you kidding me? The crossbow is the same as a gun except for the gunpowder. Crossgun has a STOCK, TRIGGER, SCOPE, IS LOADED & LOCKED, POINT AND SHOOT.
-
90% of the people who would use a crossbow in archery season if they were legalized would be perfectly healthy gun hunters. So if these new crossbow hunters had such great woodmanship why don't they participate in the archery season now?
-
WNYBH, let me see if I can answer your questions: 1. of course people with guns miss shots at dear. relavance? 2. the crossbow is "magical" and can be used with no practice one the scope is sighted in. same as a gun. 3. crossbow shoots a bolt not an arrow. 4. you need little woodmandship to hunt with a crossgun because you don't need to draw on the deer at close quarters. Hope this clears things up for ya.

Larry, maybe the truely disabled would have a better shot at getting to use a crossgun during archery season if the crossgun lobby and gun hunters weren't pushing for full and complete inclusion without restrictions as opposed to just pushing to accommodate the disabled.
-
I hear your arguments Steve, but why do you make them? Just board? Sounds like it doesn't impact you either way. Unless there is some other motive you have not disclosed. i.e. I know one guy who argues for crossbow because he is a dealer. At least I understand his reason.

If thats true then why such stauch support for the xbow? I would love to know why you fight for unrestricted inclusion of the xbow in archery season if you don't have a dog in that fight. i.e. you woundn't use it yourself. come clean. I fight against the xgun because I feel it would drasticly change the complextion of archery season which I enjoy.
-
It appears the guys taking shots at NYB are the same guys who want to take over the archery season with their xguns. Very transparent.
