Im hoping it doesnt rain tomorrow so I can get out. Backs feeling better so may try and get in an afternoon hunt, seems like alot more deer moving in the late afternoon. Im hoping to get my first deer and first bow kill in all one!!

Got out last week and had a nice 6 point come thru but he was out of range. He was leisurly trotting by but wasn't spooked then at 50 yards turned to see what we were for a sec he knew something was there but couldnt tell what (was in a ground blind)....still not spooked then trotted away. Tried to get him to stop when he was closer in but my grunting didnt phase him. Atleast they are out there and starting to move. Was going to head out yesterday evening but had a random back spasm in the morning and had to sit it out . Seeing how today goes, gotta try and get some work done and see how the back is feeling later on. I need to fill the freezer I just picked out!!

So I have not heard of any deer being killed yet on the island. Anyone had any luck yet or atleast seen some movement? I was out in rocky point opening day and did not see or hear anything. Saw a few tracks but nothing that fresh except one set. Besides that there was no fresh scat or anything. I know these high temps are not helping. And I am also thinking the deer are farther out east around the farms since thats where the food is at right now. So lets keep track of the movement to help everyone track where the deer are and at what times they are being seen. Also would love to see pics of deer harvested on long island!! Got out Tues and Weds.....hit the island tuesday with no luck...saw/heard nothing temps were warm. Headed upstate Weds saw some sign for deer and bear but nothing, temps hit like 80 when sun came up so hiked around hoping to jump something up. My buddy jumped some bucks chasing does but had a wall of thick brush between him the deer so no shot. They're out there!!! Trying to make it back out this week. Still have to hit the uncles property up by catskill....had a stare off with a doe for a few mins there last weekend i was stone stiff and she turned broadside for me when checking my trail cam, if i had a bow in my hand she was mine so hopefully i see her this week if i can make it up and got a bear on the cam so that property could be hopeful!!

In a few hours!! Was gonna do sterling but park site says no bow hunting till 2nd sat in Nov. So either catskills or may just drive a few mins east here on the island and give that a try for the first time since I'm soo close and no check in or access permit for early bow on Li!!

Yeh these temps are tough.....looks like we'll be going deep off the beaten path to higher elevations. Would be nice to find a ridge to set my blind up.....not much of a treestand hunter.

Hey welcome!! I'll be up in the Catskills alot this season....just found out my gfs uncle has some land he "forgot" about lol so I been up there checking it out and scouting out.....saw some deer sign and alot of bear sign!! So I set up a trail cam gotta go up and check the cam hopefully this week.

+1.....great site has put me in contact with a lot of great individuals who are knowledgeable and willing to help!!! Oh yeh goose this weekend!! Been practicing calling and just gotta rig up the decoys and we're good to go!! I use the good ole rugar 10/22 for squirrel and occasionally the single shot shotgun. Was up in catskill when the season opened but was a bust.....I guess it was still too warm and most of the acorns hadn't fallen yet. Heard a few barking to my call but they were way up in the cover out of sight. We'll get up for some squirrel Aaron but after we bag some geese!! Lol

Hey if your ever around the island give us a holler and we can mayb set something up. And mayb we can make a trip up by you and you can take us around the area. Me and Aaron are getting together this season so things are about to take off!!Yeh this is def. A great site with alot of knowledgeable and helpful people.

Whats up papabear!!!??.....Dam sorry to hear about your dog thats never good to hear. Well hopefully he rests and heels up well. Theres always Rabbit season for Oz to enjoy! I think i'll be heading out this weekend to find some geese. Wish me luck!!

Def. Want to get some rabbit hunting in.....just got to find a good place to go. Never jumped any rabbits when upstate but my backyard has a bunch but cant hunt them where im at in suffolk lol.....

I am thinking it is still too warm, my buddy went scouting this week at all his hot spots from last season and said it was completely dead. I wonder if anyone who has gone out on the island has had any luck?? it shouldn't be that much of a secret to just tell us if they have had any luck yet.....I know asking where to go is a big secret around here on the island.

Haha thanks aaron I got tired of the silhouette. Nasone if you can provide some insight on hunting geese/duck it'd be greatly appreciated. We're looking to hunt over water and if we can get feild access that'd be great also. Wheres some good spots on the island??

Thanks for the info!! I called BU and Hunters Garden to see if I can see the grounds before joining. BU called me back within an hour and said we cab work out getting me to see the grounds. Hunters Garden hasn't called back yet.....I did like the option of being able to shoot ducks also as I am trying to get into waterfowl and bird hunting. And no I do not have a hunting dog. So you can reccomend Hunters Garden? How are the other members and is it an issue with getting in feild time??

Ok so I have been itchintg to go goose hunting since the season opened.....this is to be my first time hunting waterfowl, figured I should take advantage of living in suffolk and extend my hunting season to more then squirrel and deer upstate like usual. I've never hunted long island so my question is do I have to jump through hoops here or can I just go to a listed preserve walk in set up and shoot geese or do I have to check in and all that red tape stuff??? And will the area be packed with 100 people like everywhere else on long island?? I'm used to upstate just parking the truck, walking in and hunting and being the only one in the woods. Any help would be greatly appreciated.....I've already wasted a week of this goose season and need to get things rolling. Also if anyone would be willing to show me the deal I'd be grateful. My buddy who was suppose to be taking me out on the island is too busy to get out and hunt yet so I have to take matters into my own hands. Sorry for the long winded post.....thanks in advance!
