  1. Takes me about an hour to hike up the mountain and get set up with my climber, ugh, I will leave camp around 4:45 am.....ugh again ....
  2. So after coming in from my morning sit in the rain yesterday, I had some breakfast, as the rain got heavier I got bored and decide to do some still hunting in the rain with the bow. After about an hr walk I stopped by a big rock and did some grunting. After about 30 minutes I stood up and came around the rock and there standing was the big boy that made this Not sure who was startled more me or him but he had at least 8 points around 17" or 18" spread but what I noticed the most was the bases of his main beams were as thick as my wrists, And there we were bow by my side and him going " oh crap " needless to say he took off and I will be there opening day of rifle. Motto of story ? still hunting with a bow works if you pay attention :-)
  3. Just kicking in big where I hunt in 4w but the rifle pressure will get them totally nocturnal be me.
  4. I'm wondering how I'm going to get up my cabin road with the snowstorm they are saying we are getting next Thursday
  5. That licking branch mount is killer !!! now I need to shoot a nice buck :-/
  6. I made the base myself, I was going to have a branch come up from bottom to his mouth to make it look like he's eating but never did it.

  9. While this is true, I would not want to live the rest of my life knowing I killed someone even though it might be from stupidity on their part, not to mention the law suits. We just need to be as careful as we can, no real answer here as every scenario and hunter is different IMO. Wear orange for gun season, end of story! it's not worth it not to, it's only a freaking deer!!
  10. You just described pretty much every shot in the Catskills
  11. Even though we kill these animals, good responsible hunters still have respect and compassion for these animals as shown by the responses here. No one likes to see one suffer like this
  12. Ok figured it was... Saw when they had test plots for it before they released the seed to everyone. Looks great, what kind of fert did you use? lime' lime' lime and after that more lime. got my fertilizer from Tractor Supply I forget what I used it was starter fertilizer then I added milorganite to keep deer off the new growth. the only thing I regret was not adding nitrogen after planting. the leaves started to turn yellow and brown Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Forum Fiend v1.0.1.
  13. yes it a radish. I used Biologic deer radish Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Forum Fiend v1.0.1.

  16. Well after climbing a mountain for an hr with my 23 lb climber on my back in an unsuccessful attempt to get closer to the bucks, this is was done last night while I was sitting in camp wondering where the bucks were
  17. I can tell you then I would have to kill you Near downsville, overlooking the Pepacton
  18. I hunt in 4 W and thought the same thing, spikes and 4 pointers the norm, Then I started using trail cameras
  19. Full camo with orange vest and hat. I would never hunt during gun season without orange on, private or state land, but thats just me
  20. No, It's only hunting and dads don't last forever, enjoy the time with him and if it bugs you that much hunt somewhere else.
  21. Nice buck! Not much rut activity, by me anyway 4w. no rubs, scrapes, does are all alone and nothing but does and one small buck on the camera. Bucks are still nocturnal here. hopefully this weekend picks up.
  22. I eat the ribs on occasion, I use a new paint scraper to scrape all the dried nasty stuff off the inside of the rib cage. cook on the grill with some bbq sauce
