  1. I agree with Four Season Whitetail. To me, a meat hunter is someone who hunts to fill the freezer. The biggest difference, and it's only my opinion that is the key, was the comment about the 50lb fawn. A true meat hunter looks to take the most meat possible from thier limited tags. A mechanic I know "brags" that he has killed a buck every year for the past 10 years. All were button bucks on DMP's, to me, he is not a meat hunter but a "brown is down" member.
  2. Awesome story & congrats !!
  3. Awesome looking euro!! & I really like the price.
  4. Jerry, There's a lot of State Land in the Lake Desolation area. That will probably be your best bet as most of the land in Toga is posted and access is not easy to get. Look into Dake Town Forest .
  5. And $13,000 is for a 190 - 200 class deer, over that it says prices to be determined on an individual deer basis...... Does that mean the richer you are the more the deer costs?
  6. Geez..... That place looks like the Barnum & Bailey Freak Show of Whitetails.. I can't imagine paying $13,000 + for a deer on a "MANAGED FAIR CHASE" preserve though, & I'm not going to knock anybody for their thoughts of preserves but the $13,000........OUCH !!!
  7. "This farm raised buck was said to be 400 pound" He looks likehe was raised on the "Photoshop Farm"
  8. My boy is real young and all full of pi$$ & vinager. He says he doesn't care, he'll throw it on his shoulder and carry it out. I let him grab 2 50 bags of feed one day and try to put them on his shoulder and walk........He changed his mind REAL QUICK !!!!! I told him to image trying to walk through the woods like that & that's only 100 lbs.
  9. I hope you get the chance to do so. There were a few little uphills that I had to get my deer up & my 165lbs had all they could do to move him. I really could've useda 4 wheeler that day !!!!!
  10. I killed one that dressed 208 after 3 dadys hanging & scored 143". Personaly, after dragging that monster out, I'll take a 140lb deer with a HUGE rack LOL !!!!
  11. Geez Brandon..... CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!! What a SLOB! Way to stick with him & finally connect.
  12. I agree WNYBuckhunter about getting out of the stands. I usually sit in my stand until 10:00 or so then still hunt my way around. The biggest problem we've had this year seems to be a swirling hard wind more than previous years. I think we've had 15+ MPH winds almost every weekend most of Southern zone. Again today, 15 - 20 mph winds with gusts to 30. I helps hide the sounds of stalking but is killing me scent wise & I do take a lot of care to eliminate & reduce me scent.
  13. OK, I'll agree with that. When they're fresh killed the ears just fold out of the way and they are flexible. Skull caps are actually a pain in the but because you don't have the weight of the deer to keep it from rolling and rocking on you. I would be worried about damaging some ones mount while scoring it.
  14. My neighbors son found a newly dropped 5 point right side Saturday in Washington County. I hate to see them dropping this early.
  15. Why do you say that Hector? It's the same as green scoring them the day they come in.
  16. It's been a dismall year for deer sightings in 5R & 5J. I've hunted everyweekend since Northern Zone Muzzle Loader opened & the entire opening week of Southern Zone. Northern Zone - 19 deer total - 2 bucks (I missed 1 & couldn't get a clean shot at the other). Southern Zone - 6 deer total, 1 doe opening weekend, 5 in a group I pushed out. 4 of us hunting every weekend since October 23, 0 bucks killed, 1 missed. We're still out there though & will be until Southern Zone ML closes.
  17. and the antlers are still connected to the intact skull plate.
  18. Congrats Wooly on a great buck & a fantastic story, it made me feel like i was right there with you the whole time. Nice pictures also.
  19. Here are a few Saratoga County Deer that I've had mounted. Taken more that didn't get done Bigger 8 Before Bigger 8 After Smaller 8 9 point 6 point
  20. I said that I carry 13 with me. The 2 spare clips in my belt case have had the same bullets in them for 5 or 6 years. Over the past 3 years I have shot 5 shots & killed 4 deer. Some of you are right, I carry way more ammo than I hopefully ever need, but 2 clips weigh 6-8 ounces each, I'll carry the extra weight thank you.
  21. Perfect day for me would be rain friday night (make it nice & quite) , overcast, calm & low 40's for a high.
  22. I carry 13. 5 in the gun & 2 4 round spare clipsin my belt pouch. 3 of us use the same Remington 742 30-06 so the clips are interchangable if need be.
  23. I was being nice & warped his face & took outhis name because I don't know him personally.
  24. Here's a picture of the big 6 that I was talking about in the Recorder Sunday with 11" G2's
