  1. I'm not from the area, but I have fished the south end of Cayuga lake with good results from shore. It's right off of 13 in Ithaca. There are a couple of parks there with access. I'm sure there may be better spots around but I would think it would be a good place to start.

  2. I have seen them out for a swim many times here on Long Island in the great South Bay, montauk, and orient point. Just last week I saw 2 swimming from shelter island to northaven near the south ferry with a screaming tide. They are excellent swimmers.

  3. I agree with G-Man, it does look like an ironwood tree. But I doubt it was the work of a woodpecker. They usually peck dead trees or branches looking for insects. More likely the damage was done by a borer, which is an insect that bores itself into the tree. A bird called a sapsucker could also do that, but they usually make several holes in a line in one area.

  4. I like to say Trump, if he's elected, will be either the best president the US has had in a very long time, or the worst. No middle ground on that one, it's a big gamble like putting one's life savings on black at one of his casinos!

I don't think anyone could be worse than who we have now.

I'm not sure the rodent analogy fits. I like some things he says and dislike others, but comparing the POTUS to an exterminator?

I wouldn't call him an exterminator. He will just relocate them to some far away land. Much like what Guiliani did to all of the homeless in NYC.

I agree, The establishment is afraid he is going to upset their apple cart which they share with the dems.

^^This! That is why they are all crapping their pants.

  5. I went out Sat morn in the blizzard on private land, after a failed attempt at goose hunting. Still hunted along the bluffs where there was a lull in the wind. Deer where on there feet milling around. Got within 40 yds and took the biggest doe. I saw about 20 in all. That was my 4th doe for the year, all taken in Jan.

  6. I just had what looked like a spike chase 3 does by me. He was grunting with every step and had his tongue hanging out. The chasing I have saw for the last 3 days has been mind boggling. My only guess is the weird weather has forced a 2nd rut? Any one else seeing this?

My guess would be with the mild weather that we had all season, breeding was limited to only night time activity. Even then it was not getting too cold during those hours, resulting in some does going into estrus and not getting bred because lack of movement due to warm temps. The second rut always happens, but this year there are more does to be bred that were missed the first time around. And now with the cold weather, it is taking place during the day as well.

  7. Here is the result of a heavy arrow/broadhead combination. It's a 125gr Thunderhead screwed into a 50gr brass insert glued to a 32" Axis arrow. Snapped the bone like angel hair pasta.

Perfect results with a less then perfect shot. That's what I like about heavy arrows and fixed heads.

Very nice. I've always been a proponent of heavy arrows and thunderheads for great penetration. I used to shoot 125's for years with 2317's. I now shoot 100gr thunderheads with 2315 aluminum. Only a slightly lighter combo, but still much heavier than even the heaviest carbon arrows. On a perfect double lung shot, even the lightest combo will pass through, but when your arrow misses its mark by even an inch or 2, it sure is nice knowing that the heavier combo with more kinetic energy will do its job and still leave you with an entrance and an exit hole.

  8. post-4978-0-59288200-1449268841_thumb.jp

A friend of mine texted me this pic that a co-worker shot earlier this week. I cropped the pic because I'm not so sure he wants his face on the internet. So I guess there are at least a few big white deer running around.

  9. I hunt on the border between of 8s and 7r for the last 15 years or so. When I started hunting there, you would see hunting camps parked all over on the sides of the roads everywhere. Usually with several trucks at each location. It was like a tailgate party with banners hanging welcoming hunters. We always stayed at a local hotel. The last couple of years, they all suddenly disappeared. We couldn't figure out what happened. I searched online for camping regs on state lands, and I noticed that camping is prohibited within 150' of roads and trails, unless it is in a designated area. Also camping for more that 3 days requires a permit. I'm not sure if those rules where always there or not, but for everyone to suddenly stop within a year or two, they must've started to crack down and enforce the regs for the campers. I believe that this has really caused the largest reduction of hunters on the state land that I hunt on.
