Heading over Saturday for the afternoon and then all day on Sunday. Vacation got moved a little and officially starts on Thursday the 1st at noon. We will be checking into the ole "C" cabins 006 on next Friday and staying thru the 12th. Home for a few days and then back over on Friday the 16th and checking into the hotel in Mount Morris and staying thru Wednesday the 21st. Had a great sit last Sunday. Hopefully the weather holds thru November. With my luck, it will end up being warm the first week of November as it has done the last few years. Hope NOT!!!!!!!!

Ok so who hasn’t received their lifetime license and tags
DaleP replied to rob-c's topic in General Hunting
As per the DEC licensing office in Albany when I called there last Tuesday 9/11 after I still had not received mine - “There were 4300 out of 135000 lifetime license holders that due to a glitch in the system did not get their lifetime licenses sent to them. We (the DEC) figured that out last Monday (9/10) and knew exactly who did not receive them. If you have not received them as of Saturday 9/15 you can stop by any license issuing outlet and they will print them for you for free .” I received min on Saturday 9/15. If you don’t have them by now the 18th go to a license issuing outlet and they will print them for you at no charge. If they give you a hard time. Tell them to call Albany. -
So just printed the archery/ muzzleloading and big game shotgun permits from the Letchworth web site. Anybody else besides me notice that their is no mention of “deer only” on either of the permits? Last year the archery and muzzleloader permits read “big game” but the regular shot gun read “deer only”. Looks like the black bear are fair game in all hunting seasons at the park this fall......

Took a ride around last week. Still pretty hot and there is a lot of corn all the way around. Saw plenty of deer in the beans, but hard to get a good estimate bcuz of the amount of corn. judging from what i saw early this spring we should be in for a good season.. Probly head over Sunday and take a looooooong walk.

Unless something has changed, there is no Sunday hunting in Allegheny State Park..

We had a good week for sightings this week, although we only had 1 buck taken by my buddy. I saw a lot of small bucks and 3 Giants that would rival some bucks in the midwest.. Overall for me personally as far as just seeing deer went, my best year in sightings since 2012... I will be back on Sunday and then next Friday through Tuesday. I am pretty sure that 10 pter was hanging at the cabin behind us. Great buck for sure. Four Seasons, I saw your truck on several occasions. Maybe someday will be able to personally say hello..

Anyone else besides me surprised and disappointed to find they had lifted the antler restrictions rule in the park??? I know the guys in the cabin next to us were "stackin em up like cord wood" as i heard them say... My feelings on this are not good and i believe the Park as we know it may not have as many mature bucks there in pretty short time.. it was always a rule i personally liked about Letchworth. It at least made a guy think before he shot.

Will be heading over tonite after sectionals!!!!!

So the count down is on till full week of Park time. 1 full day of work tomorrow, then 2 days in training Wednesday and Thursday. I have Friday off but both my son and daughter have the Section VI X-Country championships where my daughter is the defending class B champion and my son is an up and comer in class C, then the truck will be packed and will head over Friday evening and stay overnite in Geneseo. In the stand bright and early Saturday am and our 2016 adventure begins for the 5th year in a row. Will be there through the 13th, home Monday - Wednesday, off Thursday and head back over Friday and then stay #2 begins for gun season. Have the whole first week off for the first time in 9 years. Can't wait. Have already made plans to take October 26th- November 13th off next year with hopefully staying both those weeks in the cabins... Game On!!!!!!

Saw some does on Sunday night, but no real shot.. Was able to get out of work yesterday at noon and head back over to same stand. I had a nice 3.5 yr old 9 pt in front of me, but couldn't get it done.. I spent this evening doing some road riding on both side of the park and saw a lot of deer bucks and does.. I can't get back over until Sunday for the day.. Then have to work Halloween thru the 3rd. We get into the cabin the 4th and are there to the 12th. I am thinking I saw so many deer because of the bottoms being flooded. Havent seen it flooded like that since hurricane Sandy. How,bout you?

When I started I wore jeans and a black and green wool coat. Now I have clothes I wear driving to where I am hunting. Clothes that I walk into the woods in. A 30# back pack that has all my hunting clothes in it for the sit and I change before I get in the stand put my "walk-in"clothes in zippered baggies do the hunt and then change back into the walk in clothes to walk out. Crazy crazy crazy!!!

Here is the best lesson I have learned on deer anatomy in a long time. A friend gave me this link a few weeks ago and I have probly watched this 7-8 times. Set a side an hour and have a look. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6cLLHsMnL4

Took the weekend off due to the warm weather. Was there last Sunday and didn't see much sign in the woods as far as things starting to heat up. Will probably be there both days this weekend and we have our cabin booked as always(November 4-12) albeit this year in the "C" cabins due to the construction at the Portageville entrance I think judging from the # of deer I have seen in the fields in the evenings when i took a few ride arounds in September, it should be a good year there. There isn't a lot of mast crop again this year from what I have seen in my scouting trips as well. The river is the lowest i have ever seen it in the 8 yrs I have hunted there and I didn't have to ride around the whole park to get to the other side to check on some stand locations. I just walked down to the bottom and walked across the river. Never had that happen before..
