  1. I intentionally hang and hunt stands so they are fresh. Buck I killed last year I hung stand and killed buck out of it @ 5 yards. Buck was not bedded more than 100 yards away. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  2. I think it's possible a huge deer as this area is known for some huge bucks. That area I was in has probably not has a human through it in some time. It's a tangle of briars prickly ash and downed cedar Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  3. Found this while deer hunting in some of the nastiest cover I've ever been.thru. initially I thought it was a huge rub. Now I'm thinking it could be bobcat or something else. Anyone know? This is St Lawrence county. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  4. I have heard discussions on this as well. As far as I know, within NY, as long as it is unloaded, you are G2G. I do not believe they need to be stored in a case or trunk etc Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  5. My understanding of the long 50 day gun season is that it was meant to help out the guys in the ADKs who need time to find a deer. My problem is that the ADKs only represents a portion of the Northern Zone. I am actually north of the ADKs and the terrain is very similar to southern NY. We have big dairy up here with a lot of agriculture. I think if the gun season were limited, the area could put up some really big deer. The problem is that with current regs, that will not happen. Most hunters in this area go to the southern zone or out of state for a better chance at a mature deer. I know everyone has different goals. Personally, I would like to see more mature deer and rut activity, as do most of my friends/ neighbors. I have no problems with youngsters or first timers shooting small ones. I think a 1 buck rule for the northern zone makes a lot of sense. If u only get 1, u become a little more selective. I think it would spare a lot of spikes and a few 2 year olds. I would like archery season to go into November. Our bow season up here sucks. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  6. I'm in saint Lawrence county (northern zone) Gun season is ridiculously long. It is a rarity to see a buck reach 3.5 years. I know guys who hunted everyday all season long and have not seen a mature buck - because they are not there. Trail cams also back this up. I would like to see NY mirror some of Ohio's regs or Southern Zone. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  7. I canned up some pints of venison from the swamp buck I shot this year. I want to know if anyone has recipes to use with canned meat. I added a boillon cube and pressure canned. Thanks. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  8. Pit the stand on the back side of tree away from deer and use the tree to hide behind. Sit on the stand backwards Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  9. Hickory nuts in St Lawrence county. I have a stand by a few hickories and it is like clockwork every year. The squirrels knick them down and the deer will be there to pick them up. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  10. Femoral. Liver hits take hours Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  11. NY is very diverse as most of you know. I am wondering from your experiences, what part of the state produces the biggest bucks and what part has best hunting overall. Currently I live in 6a and hunting is poor. IMO the season is too long, the winters are tough And coyotes are prolific here putting a lot of pressure on the herd. I will travel to western NY to fill my tag this yr. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  12. Wooly, those pics are crazy. I never would have thought a fawn would grow a rack its first yr. All buck fawns I have ever seen have been buttons. It is probably more likely he was older 1.5 yrs and just had some unique spots. Do u think he was older? How big was he? Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  13. Grandpa, how are u liking the lithium? I just ordered one.Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
  14. I've have been stalked several times in St Lawrence county by yotes while calling over the last 2 years. It is obvious they are actively hunting birds. I had one run 8 yards in front of me after my first call last week. Huge dog!
  15. Barred owls are prolific in st Lawrence county. I call more in than I get gobbles, but they work.
  16. Try the new monoflex. The hole was impressive. Sbuff, thx.
  17. Try prrodex pellets. I was using T7. And was getting delayed ignition. My friend had same issue. He is now using BH 209, I went back to pyrodex. I really don't think it is any dirtier, but ignites great for a pellet.
  18. Just to clarify, this is different than the SST. It is the monoflex bullet.
  19. BTW got the gun for a graduation present in 2005. Its an accurate, simple, and fun ml to shoot. I love it. Not sure if they even make them still. Mine is SS/ synthetic.
  20. They are the new monoflex bullets. I thought it still said SST on the box. Yes, still using the orange primer. What breech plug are you using? The only issues I have is snow melting and getting into the powder. Have you found a way to shield the breech better?
  21. How did you make the heat shield? We use the same smoker.
  22. Sorry deer is at processors. I was very happy with performance. They were grouping very well and were as easy to load as power belts. It was the 250 grain.
  23. Switched to these from power belts. Drilled a doe at thirty yards slightly quartering to. It flipped and died instantly. Never have seen anything like it. Shooting nef sidekick and 2 pyro pellets. These are the new ones with the flex tip.
