    Woke up this morning to a ceiling panel on the floor and a flood in the basement. Got lucky though as it was only a small section of the pipe in the basement and the packing nut on the valve relieved the pressure. Thank you PEX. A curse upon you interminable winter...

    Personally, I don't hunt them, but this season I saw more than I have in recent years. Hell, I almost ran a flock over on my way to a covert in Whitehall. We had to sit and let them pass, like ducks in a park. Unbelievable. Like I said, I don't know a whole lot about turkey but I would say we're not hurting in region 5. I would attribute that mostly to lack of hunting pressure. It seems to be all about the deer around here.

    This thread is old, dead and gone. But what the hell. Hudson Falls reporting in. I hunt mostly everything except 5A, 5C, and 5F. Not that I wouldn't venture a little further north, but with the truck I drive I might not make it there or back.

    I can believe that 100 percent. It is a rare day afield when I don't flush a big owl at some point. I'd imagine a rabbit or mouse/vole would be an easier target but nowhere near the same meal.

    Welcome to the forum and welcome back to the state. There's plenty of public land mere minutes north. Hell, you're standing on the doormat of largest public park in the contiguous United States!

    Welcome aboard! That's a pretty big chunk of woods there with a lot of water to boot. Just down the road from the Siamese trailheads there's a little outfit that rents cabins right on Mill Creek in Johnsburg. (http://www.cabinsatmillcreek.com/index.shtml) You might be able to work something out with them. I'd think they'd be glad to get the late season business. Wish I could be of more help, but nothing ventured nothing gained. Good luck!

    Luckily in my neck of the woods Cabelas and Bass Pro are a long way away. That being said there are plenty of Dicks around, but why even bother. The local shops have the one crucial component that will keep me going back; well informed staff who live and hunt locally. Add to that the fact that you can handle and compare multiple guns at once and the extra $100 is money well spent.

    Congratulations indeed. A fine representation of both sexes. Does anyone know anything about the blue bill? I assume these ducks aren't born with the blue bill, much like the blue footed booby, whose feet change color as they mature. Is it a hormone thing or some other biochemical trigger? Maybe something in its diet? Just curious. In any event, you've captured them beautifully.

    A general introduciton from a fellow hunter here in Region 5. Long time lurker, first time contributor. A great site containing lots of useful information as well as a refreshingly friendly user base. Looking forward to adding my two cents to the pot.

    Diplomat has it right. The DEC dumps the birds by the hundreds until October then they're left to fend for themselves. Here in Region 5 we're lucky to see any survivors on public land that last into December.
