  1. Clearly capital punishment is alive and well here in the empire state.
  2. The specifics: https://agriculture.house.gov/bill/hr-2647-resilient-federal-forests-act-2015
  3. RGS co-sponsors a bill (The Resilient Federal Forests Act of 2015, HR 2647) to move along habitat improvement projects. http://www.ruffedgrousesociety.org/RGS%20Speaks%20Out%20for%20Forest%20Wildlife%20in%20Congress#.VY65wFLbJdg Ruminant and Galliforme hunters come together to get it done.
  4. That would certainly explain my annual earnings.
  5. Well it appears we will have an ending here. I now await the novelization of this ordeal. Film adaptation to follow soon thereafter.
  6. Yeah I suppose I didn't paint that one as pretty as I should have. I was referring specifically to grouse who seem to have my number. I agree that upland organizations are indeed effective. I'm just imagining how much more effective they could be would increased funding.
  7. I think that's the main idea. There's some background noise about a federal upland stamp, but that idea has been around since Frank Woolner and most likely before. I thought there was an interesting correlation implied in the graphs that ties into the federal upland stamp business. Per the graphs wetland habitat has the most money thrown at it, mostly through sales of the federal duck stamp. It's attendant organization, DU, wins the funding war and wetlands are protected or restored. And so the duck population is the only species on the graph to see an appreciable increase. I think the author is suggesting that a federal upland stamp could work the same magic for my beloved grouse and woodcock as well as pheasants and quail. I'd be all for an upland stamp, but I think it would be a tough sell. There's no doubting the federal duck stamp puts money to work and gets results. I would think the same could be true for other habitats. As for input I guess I was curious if others supported upland organizations and if they felt their dollars were being utilized effectively. And how about an upland stamp? Anyone else willing to pay $25 extra bucks to get skunked all season?
  8. Lake George is a nightmare. I'll throw my hat in with the others on Old Forge. A beautiful place with TONS of lakes. Also much overlooked by the hordes. A short drive to Blue Mountain Lake and the museum and all the trails you can hike on John Browns tract.
  9. I wasn't his editor or anything, but I don't think that's what that book is about. At all.
  10. Oh right. This is forum for deer hunters. Slay on slayers!
  11. Right. I thought Mike was intolerant of those who hold more money than himself.
  12. I'm not sure this qualifies as bigotry. I could be wrong. I'd eat a moose.
  13. A quick read from Ultimate Upland comparing funding and membership of species specific conservation organizations. http://www.ultimateuplandnews.com/conservations-invisible-birds/ I'd appreciate any thoughts and comments.
  14. Fair enough. You sure wouldn't know it from the sounds of things.
  15. Our county decreed the sale of fireworks (defined as sparklers, bottle rockets, fountains, the little stuff) legal up to 30 days before the 4th. That being the case, I've been hearing them every night all over our neighborhood. We've also had two structure fires as a result.
  16. I think we're finally getting to the heart of this matter which is, how tasty is moose meat? As essentially a "native" I would welcome any and all donations from downstate hunters. I had never heard of SCI before. I would say it sounds an awful lot like an organization comprised of ADK "landowners", most of which are in fact from down or out of state (Jersey).
  17. I thought I'd post some good news. I was beginning to get a little snarky there. Sorry all. Rejoice. The sage grouse is safe® for now. http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/the-conservationist/sage-grouse-amendment-pulled-from-defense-bill?dom=fas&loc=contentwell&lnk=sage-grouse-amendment-pulled-from-defense-bill
  18. There was no need after the first time. I'm only slightly retarded.
  19. Never. But I have now and will be "googling" him presently.
  20. I won't argue that money can buy influence in the political sphere. Having little to no experience in this arena I just (perhaps naively) figured it would take a large number of supporters or a group representing such (as well as their attendant monies) to put the machine in motion. I first heard about the moose study on NCPR some time ago. I don't think it's under way yet so I don't have any raw data. http://www.pressrepublican.com/sports/outdoors/state-dec-about-to-embark-on-moose-study/article_16b88f7d-98b4-592e-9fb8-e22d5dc4f2d5.html
  21. No offense meant there. I genuinely wouldn't think that one person could push their agenda through the legislature. Nor any offense meant about the doves. I would love to able to hunt them here at home. But yeah, I am a bit of a prick in general.
  22. Interesting. I wouldn't have thought it so easy. Given that, you should run for office. Sounds like it would be a piece of cake to push a dove season through.
  23. Agreed. Thanks for parsing that down. That wasn't made clear in the story. Might this all have something to do with the current moose study the state is conducting? And as for who or what is behind this, any thoughts?
