  1. And go figure, no AR's in the Adirondacks!
  2. During muzzleloader week here in the NZ I saw quite a few fresh scrapes but then some warm weather came and since then things are dead-no activity at all. It is cold now, even had an inch or two of snow yesterday and still nothing coming to the scrapes. I got pics of some of the bucks and even saw some of them while hunting(I'm not for AR but by choice I passed them up so I am not a brown it's down guy just becasue I don't support AR ) but it is almost like the earth swallowed them up. I am almost positive they didn't all get shot but I can't even get any pics of them now????????????
  3. I had a doe that hung around my place for 6.5 years(she was an adult deer when she showed up with a crippled leg). She had all four legs but one front leg was crippled, it was bent back at the knee and she was not able to use the leg at all. I figure she got hit by a car which caused the injury. She was kind of my "wild" pet. She would have fawns every year just like a normal deer. She would let me drive within 30 yards of her with a four wheeler or tractor. I always admired her will to survive because she would struggle to walk but boy she could run. She made it through last winter but must have passed on sometime last spring because I have not seen her. RIP old girl.
  4. From all I've read the general consensus is that it is a great gun but I probably won't hunt much with it since I have a pre-64 model 70 Winchester that like and I am quite partial to. The gun came with a new sling, hard gun case, two boxes of ammo and a 4x simmons scope(I'm a leupold guy so this will have to go)! I paid $250 for everything.
  5. Yes it has an 18.5" barrel and has the angle forend.
  6. If you like Ohio's management system, quit hunting in New York State and go hunt Ohio! Don't forget to bring your wallet either.$$$$$ Ohio is still cheap to hunt. Plenty of public land with good hunting. Why would you tell someone that would like the system here to improve that they should move rather than try and make a difference? I never said a thing about him moving. I said if he likes the way Ohio manages there deer and dislikes the way NY manages there deer then Ohio would probably be better hunting for his needs.
  7. If you like Ohio's management system, quit hunting in New York State and go hunt Ohio! Don't forget to bring your wallet either.$$$$$ You may want to re-read. In reference to the group's proposal, I never said..."I, me, we,".....I said "they"...which last I remember from school, meant a group that "I" was not a part of. My only insertion was my opinion of Ohio's system, and the relative lack of awareness of developing a "system" that likely isn't as good as what is already available for adoption. That said, Ohio should be the state all other state's look to, to manage their deer. They balance biology, hunters, and finances. They balance the trio perfectly. And, one of the best counter points to your lovely statement...ever look at the cost of an out-of-state license for Ohio vs. NY. Bet you can't guess which one costs more to deer hunt a season (bow/gun/mz)? From what I read "Follow Ohio's deer managment and life will be great", this sure sounded like you want all of us hunters in NY to do as Ohio does. Who would life be great for? Oh yes, all the guys that think hunting is about how much rack a buck has. I have no idea of license fees in Ohio but good luck finding prime land in prime deer country in Ohio for a reasonable price.
  8. I just purchased a Remington Model Seven .308. The gun was made in 1994. I bought it from a lady I work with and she claims it has been shot twice and never been hunted with, the gun is emmaculant. Anyone have one of these rifles and what do you think of them. The only reason I bought is I thought the price was good.
  9. If you like Ohio's management system, quit hunting in New York State and go hunt Ohio! Don't forget to bring your wallet either.$$$$$
  10. Exactly Culver. I pass on many young bucks each season too but that is my choice, as it should be. I guess deer hunting to some people is all about the amount of bone on a bucks head.
  11. Pretty simple, I like venison and if I have a choice I'd rather eat a tender 1.5 year old than a tough 6.5 year old.
  12. Ahh, thats the spirit! Except with AR, that won't happen unless your illegally taking the deer. The Hunter.......Since you want to criticize people for there spelling/grammar I will point out that it is obvious that you didn't get an A++++ in english either. In your above statement, "your" should either be "you're" or "you are"........take your pick.
  13. I hunt with a Reflex that is about 10 years old. I use aluminum arrows. It is ancient but does the job. Bows seem like computers to me, you buy a new one (for a high price) and all is great then within a few years it is outdated and basically worth nothing. For rifle I hunt with a pre-64 model 70 that was made in 1952........this does the job too.
  14. I agree, I'd like to see what the %'s would be from the total # of hunters from these WMU's.
  15. Do you have proof that the majority in your WMU is in favor of AR or is this just your opininon? Unless a survey has been conducted in your WMU that includes every hunter in your WMU I think this is more opinion than fact.
  16. QUOTE FROM THE HUNTER: "Why is everyone so worried about a first time hunter getting a buck? Since when is going out hunting guarantee you a buck? I went 3+ years before harvesting my first buck, I had to hunt, put in the time, and I bagged a nice older 7 pointer." The Hunter: Why are you and others in favor of AR so worried about shooting deer with big head gear? I agree that shooting a nice rack buck is exciting where I hunt because they are few and far between but if AR's work like some of you people say they work and big bucks are running everywhere........how exciting is shooting a rack buck if you shoot one every hunting season? The Hunter, you say it took you 3+ years to havest your first buck, an older 7pt......hmmmm, I would assume this was before AR's?? How could you have possibly harvested an OLDER 7pt before AR's were implemented? For all you hunters in favor of AR's, you are entitled to your opinion but don't critize other hunters because they don't feel the same about AR's.
  17. I see you are from Potsdam, not too far from me. I'm in Franklin County, town of Bangor. How is deer population in the Postdam area these days?
  18. I think the biggest factor that determines whether to introduce AR and/or doe harvesting depends on the area and the deer population. I am NOT in favor of AR or doe harvesting because of where I hunt, there simply aren't many deer. I hunt in the adirondacks and if you get the opportunity to kill one buck a season, you've done well! No matter what a buck has for headgear in the Adirondacks.......it's a trophy. I know of a hunting club in the Adirondacks which is around 14,000 acres that wanted to do QDM so they hired a well known wildlife biologist deer expert??? First thing the guy said was "gotta shoot does". So they did, and alot of them per the experts orders. Long story short, there hunting hasn't been worth a crap since then and that was like 15 years ago that this happened and prior to shooting all the does the club actually put of some pretty impressive buck numbers. The club has 100-130 members and last hunting season they shot under 20 bucks. Prior to shooting all the does they always took 50+ bucks.
  19. I live in Brandon, NY. Most of my hunting is done in 6F but occassionaly I hunt 6A and 6C.
  20. 2006 Ford f250 6.0 powerstroke. Also have a little truck for mileage, 1998 chevy s10 4 cylinder.
  21. Winchester Pre 64 Model 70 3006 with Leupold vari-x II 3x9. It's a bit heavy but very dependable.
