Well I am about in the middle of the Hudson valley. And we have had quite a bit of rain but with some dry spells. And our nuts are all over the road I take my walks.on they are big and green. I am sure some are from the critters chewing them off the branches.

Thanks guys I've filled my wife's tall kitchen trashcan with patches twice she's getting tired of Putting new liners in it . She says that stuff stinks

Thanks wow that barrel must be made out of copper . I am going to need a case of 30 cal patches.

OK just ran some patches down one of my 303's Now I haven't used hoppes#9 in a very long time Last time I had a bottle it came in a steel gun cleaning kit for my 22. Any how that's what I put on the patches #9. And they came out as green as a traffic light. What is that reaction too. Could that be to Cosmo lean in the barrel ?. I am use to seeing black on the patches not bright Green.? Like I said I don't use #9 , is that just the way #9 Works on everything? Thanks for any help.

Don't know if this is the wright place to post this question But down here the acorns are dropping I was wondering how the beech nut crop looks Up north. The deer and the bears really need a good Nut crop.

What got me calling these rifles , scout rifles was a 8 mm. That I picked up that had a scout mounted scope . After I got it I didn't like the scope. But I do like the rifle very.much. it is very light as well and easy to carry.

Thanks for the post's everyone. Elmo that's a great time for preseason scouting. But I am talking about a day when you've been hunting and comeing up empty. You don't see anything moving. When that happens I leave my tree stand and go looking maybe you haven't herd a shot all week by your area. That's when I leave the 98 Mauser home And take the 243 or the 7.7+58 and cover all the woods I can poking around to find out what happend to the deer . Sometimes I find them.
-
Somebody put a lot of time into it. And you don't see that done to a 7.7/58 every day.

Here's another pic

That is the original stock cut down with 3 pieces of walnut, or some dark wood laminated into it. They did a great job. I didn't have it done. . A old hunting buddy of mine& my wife had it. When he passed away I bought it from his wife. Were he picked it up I don't know, he wasn't into old military guns.
-
It's got a old hard rubber but pad. Try to post a pic.

What due you carry, when you plan on covering A lot of ground in a day. I have a CVA scout in ss. 243 composition stock. Very light . And I carry a sporterized Arisaka 99. In 7.7+58 With peep sites. This has really been chopped Down . It's nice to carry, but you only want to shoot it once.
-
When your out scouting around a nice light rifle can't be beet. I have a single shot 243 for that job. That mite make a good post.scouting rifles.
-
I really enjoy taking them out on a hunt, even if its just for a few hrs.
-
The 450 & 45/70 are what I call light shoulder fired Field artillery nice rifle's

In the past I had about 14 levers at one time , then I got the big bore bug. Got rid of all the levers. Now I have picked up a few again. A 1955 western. Auto 30/30 a 1953 35 rem. And a 1989 450m they all are special to me..
