  1. Thanks I'll have to check them out the next time I'm there for drill
  2. Anyone know of a reputable Martin Dealer around Albany or Syracuse? I want to check out the new Hellfire 35 after seeing a ton of rave reviews on them.
  3. A lot of movement right before legal light. Dead since. Saw a slammer chasing a doe on the drive here though.
  4. 16 in NY you cant hunt alone. Like some others have said its all up to your maturity as a hunter if you think you are able to hunt alone or not.
  5. Tons of deer moving, chasing and sparring before light yet I haven't seen a thing after.
  6. I don't own any AccuTrigger rifles but my 220 has the AccuTrigger and I like it. Most of my Savages are older. My 116 in .300 Win Mag shoots half inch groups at 100 yards consistently. The majority of the Savages I have are old 775A 12 gauge, 1932 Model 99 takedown with .410 and .300 Savage barrels and a 1963 model 110 in .270 that shoots better than 3/4s of an inch at 100 consistently. One of my buddies just picked up an Axis so I'll see how that gun is after I shoot it.
  7. MY dad and uncle both purchased Remington BDLs in 09'. My fathers went back once because the complete magazine sleeve fell out and then when he got it back the mag spring broke (just sent him a new one). My Uncles .264, which he bought while we were on a trip in Montana expecting to use it, first shot siting it in the case won't eject. We let it cool down finally got the case out and figured maybe it was the round. Second shot same thing. Sent it to remington they claim they fixed it and he gets it back and now it won't extract a live round (have to tilt the gun up to get the round to slide out. Sends it back again and now it works "perfectly" Remington says. Gets it back this time and it does the same thing. He calls Remington and they say "Oh thats normal operation, without being shot there really isn't anything to seat the cartridge to the bolt and extractor pin." He uses it as is but for a fairly expensive rifle thats BS. I guess what I'm saying is if 2 BDLs are built with that quality I can't imagine what a $250 Remington must perform like. I'll stick with my Savages, only shotguns or rifles I have besides a couple Mossberg 500s.
  8. Yea it was far from one of my crowning moments as an outdoorsman lol. Hey who knows maybe it was my late grandfathers way of telling me there's a bigger one on this property.
  9. Yea I'm an idiot I know but the deer were all coming through on the exact same path that led them to 15 yards so like an idiot I figured he would too.
  10. New spot in 8f though so I'm stil excited about it
  11. I saw 21 this morning in 8f they came through basically in line. Doe, small buck, small buck, 120" 8 oh perfect this big 12 is gonna come by at 15 yards like the rest. Nope he goes the other way at the fork in the trail. Worst part is I could've shot him at 25 yards but figured hey if 25 is easy 15s real easy.
  12. 2 8J's for one or 2 8F's?
  13. Things don't forget, my rattle bag, chew and a spit bottle. I seem to have forgotten about every other essential besides that at some point or another. I like the suggestion of bringing a bible to the stand, I don't go to church a lot but if theres a peaceful time to read it its in the woods. I always have to "go" when I'm in the woods. Funny thing is two of the three biggest bucks my dad has harvested came right after using the "pot" in the woods. Also the first time I saw the buck I got last year (buck in my avatar pic) came while I was picking my pants up after going in the woods.
  14. Carbon TV has a couple big hunting shows (Buck Commander and Major League Bow Hunter) and subscription is free as long as you still have internet.
  15. My dad is too. Thats how i got a Savage 116 Safari Express .300 Win Mag when I was 6 months old. He bought it my mom freaked out and he said it was for me when I was old enough to hunt. He thought it wasn't a bad deal when he got it for 500 bucks at a going out of business sale. Now that the 300s are going for $1200 on gun broker he's telling me he's changed his mind.
  16. My logic on shooting a doe earlier in the season is really none of the above. However I see it almost as if you shoot a good sized doe or two first you don't have to shoot a small buck to get your meat. Wish more people saw it that way.
  17. I was kidding. But now that ya mention it...
  18. I have never really still hunted with a bow but 2 of the 4 deer I have taken with a bow including the 130" 10 point I got last year were from the ground. Don't be afraid to setup somewhere with a shooting lane within your comfortable bow range from this beaten down path you have found and wait it out for that last hour of darkness. I like to find a spot between 2 large trees when hunting from the ground so I am semi camouflaged from each angle they might be coming down a trail. Practice from sitting and kneeling positions if you do this.
  19. Chas, first person I've seen from the LOU on here. I hunt 8F too, if you've got some extra space on your hunting land let me know. JK good luck this season!
  20. I personally practice with my coat on and at just about every range or position possible, sitting, kneeling put a climber in a tree in my back yard etc. I guess it all comes to how you prepare and what you feel comfortable with.
  21. I can see, for some, hunting without a scope. What I can't see or agree with, is, in this day and age hunting with a smoothbore barrel. Personally I hunt shotgun zones with a 220 Savage bolt with a 40mm 3-9 Nikon Slughunter
  22. I've shot 6 deer with my bow lost 2 due to deflected high shoulder shots. 11, 35, 40 and 50 yards were the deer that I recovered 40 and 50 were from the ground. The deer I made bad shots on were both similar shots from the ground at about 6-7 yards both times. I think, through my experiences, that on longer shots you will take more time to make sure that your shots are perfect and not make quick shots due to the shot being "impossible" to mess up.
  23. Hey guys just found this forum today. I'm a big Lake Ontario Salmonid troller as well as an avid bowhunter. I currently attend school at SUNY Oswego so I can be lines in the water or in my tree stand in 45 minutes right after class.
