  1. I'll definitely make sure I'm prepared for the conditions. I've never really spent much time on a boat so I'll take something for motion sickness just to be on the safe side. Wooly, I'll definitely make sure to take a camera but I don't think my photos will ever compare to yours. Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  2. While at an outdoor show a fee months back I won a salmon fishing trip on lake Ontario. I'm not a real big angler by any means and have never fished for salmon. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect. It will be an 8 hour trip out of Wilson marina next Saturday the 18th. Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  3. Thats pretty much exactly how I feel on the situation. To me its not as simple as being dead for or against. Every scenario is different.Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  4. As I've said before, one of my biggest concerns with full inclusion would be an increased harvest in areas that are already low. In my area deer numbers are low and all I hear are complaints about there being no deer. Do you think including another implement for a longer amount of time will help that situation? Will success rates during archery season not increase due to use of a crossbow? Can you honestly say these decisions won't affect the harvest rates in any negative manner? How many people who are pushing for full inclusion are looking at the big picture and not just trying to get a bigger piece of the pie? My stance on the issue will probably never change, I'm not fighting against it but nobody has given me a good reason to support it either. All I've heard is "they have something, why shouldn't I?" When was rifle season shortened that allowed for archers to have more time afield?Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  5. I can back them to an extent but I don't think I'll ever agree that everyone should be allowed to use them during the entire archery season. My opinion means very little when it comes to making the laws and should matter even less to those that choose to use one. If it's legal and ethical then nobody should be shamed for their choices but it also doesn't mean that there shouldn't be exclusions to their choice. Not all things in life can be equal, someone's always going to have more than someone else.Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  6. I don't see it as a punishment to the crossbow hunters. They have 2 more weeks than they ever have before and a lot of it still seems to boil down to "but, they have more!" If crossbows prove to be no problem at all then I'm not against increasing their use. I just think it is something that should be eased into and see how it's implementation plays out before going whole hog and allowing them all archery season.Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  7. None of us know how it would all play out exactly, hence why there's so many opinions. If the decision were to be made to allow crossbows I just want to make sure it is for the right reasons and not just to appease a group of people who want more. I think it could be an excellent opportunity for some people if it's not a "rob Peter to pay Paul" kind of deal. Like someone else previously posted, I'm not in the fight against them but I'm also not going to fight for them.Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  8. Why should some be punished with a shorter season that they've always hunted to be equal with people who just want more?Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  9. They kind of go hand in hand though, bow/muzzleloader tags can be used in any area during their respective seasons. I'm not sure how that could be controlled at a local level. I think no matter what decision is made some will be happy and some will hate it. If it had no major negative impacts on deer populations and allowed more people to enjoy the season then I don't oppose certain changes. I just get the impression that many hunters are getting a sense of entitlement that they should be able to choose when, how and where they hunt with no regards to deer management. That's statement is not directed at you in any way nor is it about QDM. Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  10. I do agree with drawing a line and sticking to it. In PA we have a late, flintlock only season. No cap locks, or inlines allowed, and also no telescopic sights. I don't think this is discriminating against anyone, they have the opportunity to take advantage if they want. Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  11. I do agree with you for the most part. I'd love to see more people enjoying the outdoors and if crossbows make that happen that's fine. My biggest concern is that deer harvest have the potential to increase rather drastically with an increase in both technology and number of hunters. Perhaps this isn't a problem in many zones but there's are areas that currently have low deer populations that could be affected more so than others. Like I said, I'm not a deer biologist so these are only my opinions but I think there needs to be some considerations taken aside from the fact that it allows more people to be involved. In my area people already complain about seeing few deer in rifle season, would they be any happier seeing just as few or fewer deer earlier in the season?Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  12. An increase in hunters wouldn't be a bad thing in my opinion. I think everyone should have the opportunity to hunt the early season. That being said, able bodied people do have that opportunity, many just choose not to take advantage of it. I personally feel like it would be catering to those who want more opportunity for less work. Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  13. I don't see them as a problem for aged and disabled hunters but there are a lot of younger guys I've talked to who won't invest the time and work into vertical archery that would jump at a crossbow in a heartbeat. They are similar in range and projectile but there is no doubt they are easier to shoot more accurately with less practice and less movement. By removing the act of drawing and being able to use a rest to steady your aim, in my opinion, makes it much easier than vertical. With in increase in the number of hunters and the technology being used I think this could cause over harvesting in areas with already low deer populations. Then there are areas that could benefit from an increased deer harvest. I'm no deer biologist so this is no more than my opinion but I don't think this is a "one size fits all" problem for the whole state. Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  14. Haha a bear like that might be easier to roll out of the woods than dragSent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  15. It's not super accurate but you can sometimes get a decent estimate of size by the front track. Take the width of the front track and add 1 and that should give you a close approximation of what the hide should square. So a 4" wide front track plus 1 would be about a 5' square bear hide. I'm not sure there's anyway to really convert this measurement to weight accurately either but a few bears that I knew both the square and weight were as follows.4' square - 125 live weight 4.5' square - 150 live weight 5.5' square - 215 live weight 6.2' square - 275 live weight Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  16. Bears are one of my favorite animals to watch in the woods, they truly are awesome creatures. I've never seen a truly huge bear other than on my trail cams. As far as meat goes, I think it's some of the best out there. I've taken 3 bears between PA and NY and they've all been great eating as well as a couple that my dad's taken. 17. I may be wrong but I believe everything you said is all true except for parks managed by the NYS office of parks and recreation. Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  18. Wish the weather would have been better. They only blew up one in the field while we were there and they didn't launch any. Still a nice drive through the park though, bet the views are awesome in the fall. Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  19. Heading to Letchworth state park tonight to see the hot air balloons. Anybody else going or ever been to this event? Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  20. You've got the right attitude. If I were ever to pick up another short mag it would probably be the 325. Any idea which rifle you would get it in? I got a great deal on a 270 wsm a few years back in the model 70 ultimate shadow and I think it might be one of the ugliest rifles I own. Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  21. Sorry my first post was slightly off topic. I've never owned a 325 but I think it only slightly outperformed similar cartridges with lighter bullets of around 180 grain but when you started loading heavier bullets, 220 and up, you lost case capacity to keep cartridge oal down and velocities began to drop. Off the top of my head I may be wrong but I believe with these heavier weights, the 338 win mag was ballistically superior and also much easier to find on store shelves. But that's just my opinion.Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  22. Love my 358s. I've got a BLR and a rebarelled savage 110. I've shot a handful of deer with the Browning and they've all been quick kills without a lot of bloodshot meat. Hornady started loading for it a while back and I picked up a box to try out but haven't fired any yet since I've got 4 or so boxes left of the Winchester's and handload for it as well. Still a little easier to find than the 356 that my dad prefers. It's a shame these calibers never caught on, they even discontinued my 350 rem. Mag. Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  23. Anybody here have their own youtube channel just for your outdoor adventures? I've been wanting to create some videos of my own personal adventures but don't know where to even begin. I'd love to see some of the stuff that anyone else on here has made, probably be better and far more entertaining than the "professional" stuff on tv. Post some links if you got them please.
  24. I would have never guessed a fox made such a noise, after listening to several clips of various red fox vocals I really think that may be what I heard though. As hard as it is to admit I was way off in my guess, I did learn something new. Thanks for all your guys input, I think we can put this mystery in the solved pile.Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
  25. The scenario I was originally thinking was an already born fawn had been grabbed by a predator and the doe was reacting with noise instead of fleeing and abandoning the fawn. I don't even know that it was a deer, that's just the only similar sound I could relate it to. I've never heard a fox vocalize so I'll try to find some recording online if I can. It's one of the sounds you can hear it in your head exactly how it was and easily pick it out if you heard it but can't describe to save your life. Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
