Doc, I enjoyed and agree with your post. I thought of analogy that obviously can be rebutted, so I am posting for laughter and not to have dozens shoot holes through it. Let's call it rhetorical and for fun. Scenario 1: There are many bars in a town (food plots), the Trooper (hunter) patrols the road looking for the DUI. Sometimes people (deer) make it through the gauntlet. Immature bucks and does sometimes get caught driving by the trooper. The old wise buck takes a taxi home (no risk). Scenario 2: The Trooper befriends the people and begins to give them alcohol (bait pile). At the right moment, he arrests you for DUI. In Scenario 1 it's a legal arrest. In Scenario 2 it's unlawful entrapment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I love that you could see the train wreck coming a mile away, and summed it up with an emoji. Sit back and watch the show lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I actually didn't foresee so many different angles of thought. The states where I have previously hunter before moving to NY allowed feeders up until 30 days before first day. As some said... sometimes you are trying to get deer to become accustomed to your woods opposed to your neighbors etc... I whole heartedly disagree that plant a 1/2 acre crop is the same as setting up a pile 15 yards from your stand. And I'm not sure why a treestand was even brought into the conversation. But we are all entitled to our opinion and everyone has provided good experiences why they think the way they do. Maybe I should have posted my original message like this... if I were to go up to Oneida Lake and start fishing with dynamite and a record floated to the service, would someone give me a tv show as a pro fisherman? I should have also clarified that my main concern was not the average guy trying to fill the freezer for his family. But more so the term pro and have a tv show exemplifying your skills. If it were my choice, the real pro is the guy that still-hunts the ADK's. I would love to watch that, because it is a skill that I have never been taught and would love to learn. That guy to me is a pro. But.... I guess you can't get a camera crew to follow that guy without making noise so I digress. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sooo.... Being in withdrawal from archery season, I downloaded the Hunt Channel for my Roku Player. I try to watch videos that aren't on big game celebrity shows on fenced in ranches, so I look for smaller local productions. I saw a show within the channel called 704 Outdoors in NC. Seemed good to give a chance. Within minutes of the show starting they were shooting does over feeders. I immediately turned it off and 2 thoughts come to mind. Could I morally hunt that way even if it were legalized in areas I hunt. And, how can someone ever have a tv show and/or call themselves professional hunters when you are shooting deer over a bait pile??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So were they trespassers? Did you and the neighbors find them? Are they hanging out back ready to be skinned? That whole scenario sounds terrible. If I witnessed that, they would have dragged that fawn to a truck on fire. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ha! Yea, Brother. PBR and Johnny Walker Black. I'm a special breed lol. I'm glad I was talked into going back out. It was a really good sit. Cold, but felt good. I am actually really surprised I didn't see a doe come up the trail at last light. Win some, lose some, as long as it's fun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Frozen. Phone just thawed out. Drinking a PBR with my feet next to the wood burner. Why couldn't those 4 does I bumped earlier come back? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sooo.... I walked in the back yard about 2 hours ago while letting the dogs out. I bumped 4 doe accidentally looking over the hillside at the stand I planned to sit. Is it still worth sitting, or is that stand shot for a day or so? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yesterday I dragged my dads last deer

I sincerely thank you for sharing, from the bottom of my heart. As I read your post, I cried, laughed, and smiled. I dread the day that I have to go through this. My dad (70) always asks why I take pictures with him when one of us gets a deer, even a doe. He is in PA and I am in NY. My brother and I probably won't be there on that terrible day when it comes. You're dad gave you and your brother closure, and a hell of a story. He and his boys doing what he taught them. What they all loved. I call that a blessing. You and your family are in my prayers. Well boys and girls... I know this is our NY thread, but I got it done in southwestern PA today for opening day. I wanted to share because you are my NY hunting family. Also, I shared previously about my old processor in PA. In NY, I take the deer, they fill out the sheet, and you leave. My PA processor, people hang out there. They grill FREE burgers and hot dogs and soda. It's like a party with everyone hanging out to see what comes in and every deer goes on the scale for everyone to see. I included a pic of the processor party also lol. Good luck to everyone in NY. I'll be back in 7J this weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I was thinking the same thing. In 22 years of hunting I never had an air horn in my gear. Sounds like someone was looking for a confrontation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Pretty darn quiet in 7J. Not what I expected. My neighbor, his son, grandson, wife, and son in law, and me spread throughout our combined 100 acres. Nada. Only a few shots in the distance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I feel like I'm in a game of angry birds. I hear poi poi poi and then what sounds to be a giant wing span taking off. Haven't seen what it is yet. Could be turkey but doesn't sound quite right. Scared the crap out of me before daylight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just wanted to thank everyone for the advice. The key definitely seems to be layers of the proper material, which is great knowledge. I think in my mind (before asking), there was some secret arctic outer layer coat and pants that people would swear by. I have an old hand muff that was a free gift from Buckmasters years ago. Looks like that will be washed and making a re-appearance. Well..... If the weather ever cooperates. Breaking out the camo cargo shorts for Saturday lol.

Thank you very much. There is both an excitement and a fear of the unknown with the rumored central and upstate New York winters. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Looking for advice on cold weather hunting clothing. Right now I'm hunting a medium duty under armor scent lock. I know it will not stand up to these upstate winters I am hearing about. Was hoping to get some guidance from you guys that have been hunting these cold winters for years. I don't want to freeze during late bow season and not be able to draw my bow. I really want to see some of the white stuff during one of the deer seasons. I was living down in the Caribbean for the past 2 years, so I'm assuming I'll be a big wuss until I get used to the weather again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
