  1. Looking for advice on cold weather hunting clothing. Right now I'm hunting a medium duty under armor scent lock. I know it will not stand up to these upstate winters I am hearing about. Was hoping to get some guidance from you guys that have been hunting these cold winters for years. I don't want to freeze during late bow season and not be able to draw my bow. I really want to see some of the white stuff during one of the deer seasons. I was living down in the Caribbean for the past 2 years, so I'm assuming I'll be a big wuss until I get used to the weather again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Next year I am downloading a squirrel noise on my phone and shuffling my feet to the stand while playing the noise and making as much leaf noise as possible. Why bother being stealthy?!!?!? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I am really close to Vernon. Ended up taking this one to Phil's in Hamilton. May try Curtis on the next. Since it's my first year in NY, I'll spread the wealth and see who gets all the jobs next year. I saw Curtis' order sheet and it appears you can just get steaks/stew, steaks/ground for basic price, and if you want roast or tenderloin it's extra? The other places I went, I came back with deer steak, shoulder steak, deer chips, roast, ground, tenderloin all for basic price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Thanks. I didn't even think of that. Always learning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Good luck to everyone today. Hope to see some good pics throughout the day. Slept in and watching football today. Had to hang the deer, because no one would take a 7pm drop off. If anyone knows of good processors within 30 miles of Canastota, please let me know. New to NY and drove my last deer to Syracuse. I will say I miss the processor we had in PA. They stayed open till 9pm. They had coffee and drinks, the butchers' wives ran a grill/concession stand, and it was a great place for all the hunters to shoot the shit and grab a burger. This forum is the closest I have to that camaraderie. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. 15 min before quitting time. I'm standing watching the bedding area to my left and the swamp at my rear. I hear a bull in a China shop come barreling down the hill directly in front of me. Thought is was those damn squirrels again until he grunted. Drew while he was on the move. As soon as he got on the right side of my stand I gave him a baaah and prayed he would stop. As soon as he stopped, I let the brand new Matthews Z3 rip and shot right down through him. So happy to christen the new bow. Shot my doe first week with my old Martin Jaguar. I still don't now what he was chasing. I never saw any does. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Small 6 or down. Pics later Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. It's creeeeepy how quiet (noise not activity) it is today in 7J. I can see the south side of Oneida lake from my property and there is always heavy wind here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Just watched a single doe walk out of bow range across my swamp and directly under my other stand. Couldn't be happier. First deer I've seen in weeks. Maybe it's time for some action! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Just crunched my way through the leaves to the stand. Hoping to see a living creature over the next 3 hours. Will be 4 weeks tomorrow since I've seen a deer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Hope your intel is good. 3 day weekend, I'm going to be out here as much as possible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Blowing around like an amusement park ride in 7J. Should have dressed based on windchill factor and not standing temp. Haven't even seen a squirrel. Didn't rain, so getting to stand was like walking on potato chips. I'd been happy to see any animal just to know I'm not the only one out here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Great buck WNY. All - Quick intro. Just moved to Madison County and purchased a small 50 acre property. Job had me OCONUS a few years. Glad to be back and in the woods. Shot a big doe first week of season in 7J. Passed up on smaller deer after. Haven't SEEN a deer in 3 weeks. You guys (like WNY's photo) are all that keep me getting up at 4am. Thanks for the great info you share. It's been a rough few weeks.
