  1. My friend... his “first chance” was defying your friend that is watching the property. If he apologized and left never to return ok. He has shown clear disregard for your property. I think letting the DEC arrest him is the only solution if you get a chance to make an ID on him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. 7J rain stopped at 7:30. Fairly windy. Nothing but squirrels. Gonna call it a morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Up in 7J. This dude rolled out 7:30pm Sunday night. Trying to coax him out with rattling. Super windy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. For a second I had to make sure my Cane Corso (Italian Mastiff) was still at home. Oh wait... he doesn’t have a long tail. The rest is pretty close though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. New scrape popped up on the perimeter path around my property. Located on a thin tree line that separates my field from my neighbor’s cornfield. Sure wish they would cut that field. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Absolutely nothing. Checked cam on way out. I don’t know him, but I’d like to meet him during daylight hours. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. 7J. Lots of sleet. Little wind. No animals of any kind. Hands cold. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Report from 7J. Pulled a cam after a quick sit this morning. Have seen nothing at all during daylight hours. That being said... look at the pictures 1 minute apart. I’m assuming he was on her tail. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Yes you dare say. The funny thing is... if I sat the stand closest to the house... they may have walked right past me. Life’s about choices. I chose incorrectly tonight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I don’t have an educated answer/opinion/justification... I’ve been trying to read QDMA type articles and can’t say I am anything but confused. I just bought 53 acres July 2016. I’ve never owned property before and want to develop a good hunting area by building cover, adding food, and appropriate herd management. In southern PA growing up, the winters weren’t bad and you weren’t worried about fawn survival. I never even heard of “Yarding up” until moving to upstate NY. In short, by taking one of the many 1.5 yr old bucks and leaving the does alone allow them all to be bred and be better for my property? Do the fawns need a good winter with mom to learn where to yard up and survive a harsh winter? These are the things I’m trying to learn. Because as of right now.... my property is no where near the deer haven my dad has in southern PA. I just don’t want to make things worse... I know in March I will be dropping many trees to open up the canopy. I read about throwing a tennis ball 40 yards and if you can still see it, you don’t have enough understory. Right now I could see a tennis ball 200 yards away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Sometimes I laugh at my hunting experiences. I don’t see a single deer all night. I get out of the stand to walk back to the house. And walking nose to nose into a small herd crossing through my backyard. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Did some day drinking at Critz Farm in Cazenovia with the wife. She woke me up and said hey... you missed some good football games and your ass needs to be in the woods... so here I am. Have a dilema of cams only picking up 1 big doe with 1 fawn and another big doe with 2 fawns. Don’t really want to take them. But cameras have like 5 small bucks and no studs. Might pull the release on a bigger body small rack just to get meat in the freezer. We will see if an opportunity presents... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. All calm and quiet 7J. Not my most quiet entry. First time in this stand. Vines wrapped around my prusik knot. Finally got that free and up. Fold down the seat and 2 field mice looked at me like.... Dude WTF!!! They were quite warm but I had to ask them to relocate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Deer are moving tonight boys and girls. Same button came back and ate in front of me for 20 min. Something bigger moved through the thick stuff but couldn’t get eyes on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. If it weren’t for ethical hunters, bucks wouldn’t exist. About 4:30, I just reached the top of my ladder stand, pulled my bow up, and put it on the swivel holder. As I moved so much doing all of that, a cute little button walked right underneath me, oblivious to the world. It’s amazing that cute little not-so-smart guy will one day be a formidable opponent. 16. It’s too freakin hot and the mosquitos are like velosiraptors. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I wish I would have done that, instead of aiming for the heart. First evening in PA (Saturday) I was sitting my dad’s swamp stand. 32 yds BIG 10 pt. I had a perfect release on a perfect broadside shot. He jumps the string, squatted down and back. And I watched him run off with my arrow in what must have been his shoulder. I was hoping for a high lung that I could have tracked. Never a drop of blood. Searched all Sunday since there is no hunting in PA. Nothing. Made me feel like shit. I hate wounding deer more than missing out on the biggest buck I’ve ever seen in the woods. Been bummed for days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Well.... in for the morning. Dad saw 5 bucks. 2 that wouldn’t make “3 up” antler restriction. One that would have passed AR, but too small to waste his one buck tag on first morning. And a large 8pt and large 10pt sparring across his swamp, but never came closer than 53 yards. It’s nice to see the old man invigorated right out the gate. I saw a squirrel... 19. All quiet in SW PA. Good weather and temp. Everything is super lush and green. Won’t see much until it’s on top off me. Dew on leaves dripping so much you would think it had rained. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I’ll be in PA Saturday and all next week. First NY sit will probably be 2nd week of Oct. Dad is 71 and I don’t want him dragging deer anymore. Hope we can fill at least 1 of his tags right off the bat Saturday. I hate thinking about him in PA woods alone and I’m here in NY. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Just dropped my opening day hang-on stand from 22ft to 7ft at the standing platform. It sits on the hillside/bowl right above the skinniest portion of my swamp. I realized that I only had a shot if a deer snuck through the swamp within 5 yards of the edge. Otherwise the canopy restricted any possible shot further into the swamp. Now at 7 yards, I can almost shoot to the other side of the swamps pinch point. Line of sight is there, but it’s about 60 yards to the other edge (not trying to injure a deer, but may come in hand during rifle). Height from stand down to swamp level is probably still 20ft. But man.... sitting at 7ft from the soil beneath you is a different feeling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I keep it under 30. I practice in the yard at 50 daily because my pins are 20,30,40,50. But in a stand with the angle, canopy, nerves, trying not to get busted, string jumping, random twigs.... the 30 yard shot in the woods seems much harder than shooting my 3D target at 50, sitting in a chair in my garage, nice and bright site picture with no canopy, and sipping an adult beverage. 23. 6pt yesterday afternoon. Big doe this afternoon. Had to wait for neighbor’s atv. 7mm-08 is on fire. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
