Just got back from the Depot, bought 7 Andersen windows after looking at everything out there. Andersen 400 series seem to be the best bang for the buck.

9* In Smithtown, heading out to Montauk to fill a tag. 10" on the ground- doesn't get any better than this! -
Congrats- one of my favorite guns. I use factory Nosler ammo, very happy with them.
-
Looks like 2 different animals. Top 2 look like a bigger animal{coyote}? than the last picture{cat}?

Great day out in Montauk- got a 'shed' buck first thing in the morning. My friend had a shot at one too otherwise it was quiet.

3,000 deer on LI in federal sharpshooters' sights this winter

Don't know if this has been posted yet. Huntersfordeer.org has an online petition you can sign against the proposed culling. -
Check stations are not that big a deal. I hunt in Maine and every deer must be checked and tagged at a station the same day it's harvested, mostly mom and pop places. They pull a tooth and weigh the deer, probably have a much better handle on it's deer herd than most states. Maine has no problem with it most towns have 2 stations and it's more remote than NY. Butchers wont take an animal without a state tag. Only problem would be getting places to sign up as check stations.

Bad guys already have guns.

I was invited to go on a spring bear hunt in Maine..

There is no spring bear hunt in Maine, this hunt is on Tribal land the only license fee is a $300 tribal license not a state hunting license. -

1507...Looks like standby at Hither Hills -
They are not all filthy rich, Suffolk still has a lot of farms. It's the biggest agricultural county in the state. Very limited hunting access out there. The state also culled the herd in Sunken Meadow state park this summer, lots of shooting at night by DEC. Most of if not all the meat goes to the venison donation program.

I hunt southern Dutchess and have never saw sign of a cougar. Saw a couple bears and a lot of coyote sign this year and they certainly have an impact on deer populations. Our deer sightings are down a little from previous seasons but not a lot, my daughter actually took her first deer on Friday!

What was your best day in the woods this year?
Whelen replied to MACHINIST's topic in General Hunting
Had a lot of good days this year, Maine was great , didn't shoot but it is always nice to be up in the BIG woods! Hunted hard up in Dutchess Co. , again I didn't fill a tag but had a lot of great hunts..I was the only one not to tag out. I guess the best day was Dec. 31,last day of bow here on Long Island, took a nice doe. Saw 30 deer in the first 3 hours, all does and 1 nice 8 point. Was the first time bowhunting in several years. -
Hunting out at Hither Hills tomorrow. Rainy ,15mph winds and 50 degrees-wish me luck we're gonna need it!
