  1. Wow, thanks Lawdwaz! Home brewed are sometimes better than the “low lead” store bought ones! My flinty, my sons flinty, and my daughters pc are all 50 cal. Tim, I will definitely say hi to the gang!
  2. My confidence is up! Dodging falling acorns. Probably didn’t need the wool!
  3. mlammerhirt ...message sent. (Not sure how to change the title of the post to add "spoken for")
  4. yup...TC Hawken percussion. Last year I bought the flintlock version...not a very expense flintlock but a good starter gun for learning my way around shooting a flinty ...it is an older model and I'm having lots of problems with the lock (the newer models corrected the issues)...sent the lock to my blacksmith last week to lengthen the cock (hammer) and reface and hardened the steel (frizzen)...hoping that does the trick!
  5. You got it! I’ll coordinate details tomorrow morning.
  6. I have (actually my son has) a Hunter Safety System harness in very good condition that we would like to donate to a kid who can use it...not for someone to take and sell, please. The harness is listed as SMALL with a 50-120# weight limit and a 22-32" torso size...I believe it is the Lil Treestalker model. As I recall, this was a relatively expensive harness when I bought it a couple years ago and very easy to put on...vest style. Again, the harness is in next to mint condition...my son out grew it. I can send a pict if needed. I would be happy to ship it...or you can stop by to pick it up...Lancaster, NY. Thanks, Dino PS. below is a pict of the harness on my daughter.
  7. Thanks again for all the "welcomes"! Moog 5050, below are a couple picts of some of my selfbows I had handy (hopefully posting all these picts is not too obnoxious!) I make all my bows using hand tools (no power tools) and like to cut my own wood (the old fashion way with an ax)...it is a very long process but extremely rewarding when I harvest with a bow of my own makings! I'm still fumbling through adding picts with a caption below...picts include a cherry selfbow backed with carp skins, same bow at full draw, a hop hornbean with beaver skin handle wrap (this was made for a bow swap), basket quivers that my wife makes, a deer I harvested with an osage selfbow, and a couple picts of my hunting attire.
  8. If you send me an IM, I'll give you my cell...I would be happy to talk you through skinning the coyote. Also, don't use bleach to whiten the skull...use peroxide. The bleach will make the bone very brittle. I can talk you though properly whitening the skull too. Nice shot!
  9. Thanks for the warm welcomes...and no, I do not have a bunny suit, nor do I plan on getting one :-)...like TF said, one in the town is enough! Larry, I do remember! My involvement with archery has evolved quite a bit since then...or should I say, de-volved as now I run around with my selfbows with stone points in my loin cloth! I'll spare you with the picture! And yea, my fluorescent minerals are taking up even more of my basement!
  10. Good afternoon- My best friend (Turkeyfeathers) introduced me to this site. I enjoyed tuning into "Live from the Woods" (spring turkey season version) and I just found the "Live for the Woods" archery season version. Now that I have a new phone, I hope to contribute to the post and share my time in the woods...and when not in the woods, live vicariously through your posts! A little about me...I'm a professional geologist and do lots of volunteer work as an educational mentor, lecturing on behalf of WNY STEM, and working with the Scouts (geology and STEM related presentations). I enjoy everything outdoors, including deer hunting, trapping, fly fishing, making maple syrup, canoeing, hiking, primitive skills, gardening, x-country skiing/snow shoeing, primitive tanning, and bow making....the list goes on but these are the things I'm most active with right now (after a back injury several years ago I needed to slow down a bit and change my lifestyle). The best part of my hobbies (which I consider more of a way of life), is that my two children (12 and 14) enjoy doing most of the same...as well as my wife (in most cases)...some people think my wife is a saint to put up with all of my shenanigans! My family and I are active with several outdoor clubs including Hawkeye Bowmen and Massena Rod and Gun Club, and volunteer with lots of nature-type activities/events from replanting clams and muscles following dam releases to helping with the NYSDEC geese banding projects (...and if I can brag a little, earlier this year, my son was awarded Youth Sportsman of the Year by the Erie County Sportsmen Federation...and my daughter has recently become famous within the Carp Anglers Group with a song she wrote and performed this summer during a large carp tournament...yes...a little different ...www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Pq4lR306DM ...my wife and I couldn't be more proud! I'm looking forward to learning from everyone here, and hopefully sharing some of my passions with you! Cheers! Dino
