sampotter
Cabin Fever - you would be amazed just how silently you can shift your weight and change your position- way better than in a creaky stand. If your feet are on pegs or something similar the tree's bark really doesn't come into play.
phade
With the saddle do you have to pick up the tether like the web? The Ike video showed him having to pick up the strap to move around the tree. Curious is that's a big difference for the saddle. The Eberhart books rave about the saddle. I'm very interested in the web now that the saddle company is defunct. 5.9cummins
The only disadvantage is that it could be a little harder to unhook yourself from the tree to jump if it started to go over! I have thought about this on more than one windy day. Sam - Don't you make noise as you're moving around the tree with your boots on the bark? I must admit, this looks pretty neat and I can see its advantages. I just don't know if I could make the transition from a hang on or ladder stand... I shot a doe i had come in behined me a couple years ago. She was on high alert and all i had to do was take my left foot off my peg and i pivoted a full 180 degrees around so all my weight was on my right foot and managed to draw while doing it. Never made a noise.
sampotter
Phade- I never have moved around the tree like a monkey like that guy in the video. I usually just move slowly side to side or turn around like Cummins described. I'm telling you- the capabilities of this style of "stand" will up the ante'. phade
I'm really thinking about getting this. Ever look at the stepp ladder? Seems like they'd work well, for the climbing method and especially the top platform. I heard the web is not good for turning around in away from the tree for shooting as was being discussed, becuase it has no bridge, making it more of a balance/muscle act as compared to the saddle. sampotter
The stepp ladder seems solid but the sheer amount of metal is a problem for me. Somewhere earlier in this thread i posted a link for Climb paws- they may be a better option but i have tried neither.
sampotter
When I got home from work yesterday my Web was waiting for me. So far I am impressed. It is heavier than my Tree Saddle but 100 times more comfortable. I haven't tried to climb a tree with it but I will shortly and will make the promised video. phade
Please do...I'd like to consider this for this year but unsure if time is too short to get used to it.
dirt_a_KISS
Nice can't wait to see the video.
sampotter
Ok- Sorry if this is long, but here is what I came up with:
phade
Watching this tonight...thanks!
Cabin Fever
Watched the video and it is excellent! Very informative! I can certainly see the advantages of the Guido's Web vs. traditional stands. Certainly something to consider.... Thanks for taking the time to do this Sam!
sampotter
Hey- no sweat... well I guess I did sweat a little..
phade
First off, after watching this, you did a great job on it. I've watched many of the vids out there, even Guidos...and yours seems to be much more thorough and clear. I can see it getting a ton of hits on youtube. How's the material for scent absorbtion? I like the idea, but assume you can't wash it and early season might bring a bit of sweat. Any thoughts on that. Also, curious to see what your thoughts are on how well the linesman belt slides up the tree, say over prepped screw ins or sticks. I have a treehopper that is nice to use, but it's not the best at sliding over screw ins, etc. I'm likely buying GW this week...I think I could get used to it pretty quick shooting wise. Thanks for the vid...primo job.
sampotter
Phade- thanks for the praise. As far as scent control goes- the one problem with running it through a washing machine is the "whale tail" is riveted to the piece of aluminum in the seat and the seat fabric is sandwiched between the two. If I remove the rivets and replace them with small bolts I could remove the whale tail and the aluminum piece and probably run it through the wash. It could also be washed by hand. The only absorbent part of the whole thing is the foam in the seat which can be removed via a velcro opening. I usually run my Tree Saddle through the wash a few times per season. The whale tail did bump my legs as I ascended the tree at times- I'm thinking that if I did replace the rivets with bolts I will be able to rotate it out of the way when not in use. I'm pretty sure there are no safety implications, but will eaxmine it further. The linemans belt goes up the tree fine. I usually lift it up onto the next tree step before I lift my foot up. I don't usually "flip" the belt up the back of the tree rather than slide it, especially if on a rough-barked tree. Hope this helps. -Sam
Cabin Fever
I suppose you could wash it like I do my HSS. I just fill up a plastic tote, add scent killer detergent, and soak/wash in there, rinse, then hang out to dry.
phade
Just ordered mine...looking forward to it.
dirt_a_KISS
Very nice video! answered all my questions i had on it, especially the comparison to the tree saddle. Now are you going to use the climbing paws for the web this year too?
5.9cummins
Nice job Sam I might have to upgrade to a web next year. I don't know i will have the cash for it this year.
sampotter
Thanks guys. I will likely order the climb paws as I have not found or designed anything better so far. I thinkl Ameristep used to have plastic strap-on steps but recalled them due to breaking. Seems they could make a metal one with a thick plastic coating? sampotter
Here's a good discussion about the Climb Paws I found on Archerytalk: http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1022484
phade
http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1615264&page=2 Post 48 to quiet the buckles. I also really like the bridge idea, but unsure if I have the time to find the parts and get a another tether to make it work this season.
