i realize some including myself have hinted that the anti gun brigade in America was going to use this tragedy to their advantage, or as some alterior motive to take guns away from law abiding citizens. me and a couple others here have been chastised for daring to have such thoughts in our evil minds.

well after doing only alittle research im seeing banning assault weapons and putting restrictions on magazine capicity will do very little to reduce the number of child deaths in this country? look at the stats folks, far more kids die at the hands of drunk drivers? and the majority of kids who die by the gun are in their late teens and its gang related and taking guns away from me wont help that situation either??

so why is all this energy being put into taking our guns if its not gonna do much to protect our children.

I was never really in favor of a weapons ban but i will admit that after this situation i seriously thought about it. Then I did what you did and started doing some research and i have not seen anything that shows what every one claims. In fact i found a lot of European accounts of mass shootings in which hunting rifles (bolt action in some cases) were used to shoot a dozen or more. Once the assault rifles are gone someone is going to use a home defense shotgun, then a semi auto rifle or shotgun, then a bolt action or pump. The only ends i see to this path is a complete elimination of firearms.

Which scares the living hell out of me.

I think its pretty pathetic that the party that is so concerned with saving children's lives is also the one that pushes being pro choice down our throats. That's a debate for a different thread though.

Nearly 6000 people a year die from accidental drowning each year, thier were also 32,000 auto related deaths last year.. 6200 of which were kids. 36% of all murders are committed with a weapon other than a firearm... so.. of about 20,000 + murders committed in the US each year... over 1/3 are committed with something other than a firearm. And the 30,000 gun related deaths in the US.. more than half (17,000) are a result of suicide. just some interesting facts.
