Nuts

Well Im curious to what everyone else is seeing in the woods as far as there mass crops go.  While cutting up wood today near a black walnut I noticed them falling already.  Very very small in comparison to normal size and months early too.  So I took a walk in the woods to spy on the oaks and same thing,  They are dropping premature again this year.  However earlier than last year.   I suspect the excessive rain is the cause.   My apples are bare as well as from a late frost I had here at home.  Sure puts a damper on available wild food sources again this year.

We had a very bad storm roll through the other day...brown outs. high winds. sheet rain ..hit the basement type lightening...Yesterday while walking the dogs I found most of the persimmon on the ground.... red acorns the size of black caps all over the ground...apples& peach trees are great....grapes and choke cherries are good...hazel nuts are great....hickory trees are dropping and I haven't checked the blk walnuts down in the swamp yet... any thing that produces berries...just loaded...some drop on beech and the locust and ironwood and bass wood are loaded

Hickory nuts seem average, but are some are falling early. But they have been doing that for the last few years and we still had a significant number of them that went to maturity. What I have noticed is that there are a lot of hickory leaves down already. They haven't changed from the normal green color of this time of year, but they're just falling off the trees in significant numbers.
