NJ Gov. Vetos Safe-Act like Law

From ANJRPC: GOVERNOR CHRISTIE VETOES GUN BAN / MAG BAN!

Today Governor Christie vetoed A2006 / S993, legislation that would have banned firearms magazines larger than 10 rounds and would have banned an entire class of popular .22 caliber semi-automatic rifles. The veto marks the end of the road for this legislation for the 2014-2015 session.

...

"After months of intense battle over this misguided legislation that won't stop another crime or prevent another tragedy, we are grateful that Governor Christie has heard the voice of the outdoor community and ended the discussion," said ANJRPC Executive Director Scott Bach. "The Governor clearly recognizes the difference between legislation that punishes violent criminals vs. legislation that targets the rights of law-abiding citizens."

PLEASE THANK GOVERNOR CHRISTIE TODAY!

Please thank Governor Christie today for his veto of A2006 / S993. You can call the Governor's office at 609-292-6000, write him at P.O. Box 001, Trenton, N.J. 08625, or send an email using the online contact form (select "law and public safety" from the drop-down menu, then pick any sub-topic).

And thank YOU for weathering this months-long storm of attacks on gun owners along with us. It is because of YOUR actions, YOUR calls and letters, YOUR attendance at hearings, and YOUR refusal to give up no matter what the odds, that today's outcome was possible.

Although today's action marks the end of a long and very arduous battle, the fight is far from over. Lawmakers will be back after the November elections, and will continue their relentless attacks on legal gun ownership - and it will be up to gun owners to continue to defend freedom.

That NJ bill wasn't nearly as bad as the SAFE Act.  Christie probably is trying to avoid the wrath of the NRA by vetoing the bill, but neither he, nor anyone prior to him, has even mentioned repealing the oppressive semi-auto rifle ban that Gov. Florio signed decades ago.

An M1 Carbine isn't even legal in NJ with a 5 round magazine in it!

I fear this fate will also befall NY residents, even if Cuomo is thrown out with extreme prejudice.

Guy was burglarized about two weeks prior, they found a bunch of his stuff at one of the suspects home. Guys was so poor, he couldnt afford water or electricity,  so the county took his home from him as well. Case study in why this states pistol permit laws are so messed up, if he couldnt afford water and electricity, how was he going to afford to register the family heirloom his late father left to him? By all accounts, he would have passed the background check, he just couldnt afford the process financially.

County DA said it was inappropriate to charge him with a felony,  if anything he would only go misdemeanor as he was just defending himself in his own home. Sheriff didnt even want to arrest him. Troopers got involved and threw the book at this poor man.

I know the law is the law, but what the hell happened to prosecutorial discretion? It sounds like the damn pistol never left the house, and would have never left the bedroom had his life not been threatened.

"Acting Supreme Court Justice Thomas McNamera’s decision, dated April 30 and received by the plaintiff’s counsel on Monday, directs the immediate release of 15 categories of information related to the state registry, including detailed geographic breakdowns (including county and ZIP code) and the number of applications as opposed to actual registrations. The FOIL also asks for the number of pistols and shotguns as well as rifles that were registered as assault weapons pursuant to the SAFE Act."

Stocker is opposing Mark Grisanti who got voted out of the republican party and is running as an independent. Grisanti voted for the safe act, killed the dove bill, and sponsored multiple laws designed to punish dog owners. Grisanti is currently the chairman of the senate environmental conservation committee and in such a position he decides what hunting-related legislation gets moved for a vote and blocks whatever he pleases to.
