vincy
Hey guys, two part question. With the seaon coming up I'm ramping up my scounting. As I was daydreaming about hunting at work yesterday a thought came to mind. Is it allowed in state parks or public land to find a quiet area, off a trail, put down a block target and practice a few shots? nothing would be greater than after exiting the woods from scounting to shoot 20 or so arrows at various yardage before driving home. Im just not sure of the legalities. any info? second question, does anyone recommend a good quality block target that is portable? thanks, Vincy

We have shot many times as park police drove past. I imagine its all about safety and if you are launching arrows towards people or other cabins it may throw a flag! Many great block targets on the market but we have never had good luck with the bags holding up.
dbHunterNY
Get a rhinehart and you'll have to check where you're hunting. Some have their own rules that don't allow it like here in pine bush preserve.
VT Outfitter
dbHunterNY, I second that suggestion and advice. In my area there is land that you cant discharge a weapon unless at a legal game animal. Rhinehart makes a soccer ball looking target on a rope that you can throw and shoot it where it lies.
vincy
Thanks for the advice guys. i appreciate it. I'll look into the Rhinehart and call the park.
Vince1
Goole the park name with dec tossed in there. If they dont specifically say no u generally have to obey nystate laws for distance. To be sure just call the dec officer who handles that area. They have always been real helpful to me.

vincy
Thanks dbHunterNY. Really appreciate you sending these. I called the park I hunt, but they only allow shooting during the season. Meh
dbHunterNY
No problem. On another note for field points I've just tried out Allen fat heads and they seem to work well. You can get them at Walmart.
