Public land in 3M?

I pulled a DMP for 3M this year and would like to see some new territory. I live in Westchester, probably about an hour drive or so, any recommendations for what hunting opportunities I should be looking at for 3M?

I think Stewart airport is in 3m

Thanks, I didn't realize Stewart was in 3M. I hunted it years ago and I did not like it too much, too much pressure back then. Perhaps it has changed.

Any other public land I should consider?

Is 3M south of rt 52 ?

If so, there are plenty of doe in there.  I almost ran over 4 last week, and today there were 9 doe standing on the side of the road.  Never seen 9 doe herding together.  They might have been pressured out of the woods.....

one side of 52 is 3m and one side is 3j. There is a ton of hunters off of cox road usually on weekends but there is more land down on the wurtsboro mountains. Seen a couple nice bears by all this state land considering i live about a mile from it

Does anyone have thoughts about them?

they are all good, and most are under hunted these days, yea you get hunters on opening week but after thanksgiving it can be really nice, i hunt my own land but always get out to hunt the lands you listed above, 10's of thousands of acres of wilderness, can't be beat. you just gotta get out and pick one and get to know it, like i said alot of land, i have killed many deer in these areas over the years and till the end of MZ season you will have plenty of space.....good luck.

I hunted 3J  for 4 days.

saw NOTHING....  except 4 other men from the orange army.

They saw nothing either....

well, one said he jumped 2 doe walking in................

I drove down what I think is Cox road.  State land on both sides, until you get further in.  There was one truck parked on the side......

Could you just park the car and hunt, or do you need proper permits for each park ?

are you set on 3m I know you pulled a permit this year but 3p usually has allot of dmp's and is closer to westchester ( sterling forest , west point , and i think storm king is in 3p also ) maybe something to check out next season

I usually pull the first 2 DMPs for land nearer to me, 3N & 3G.  I got the 3M as a bonus DMP the second time around.

Is 3P rifle territory?

Yes and I believe that you are required to have a dmp to hunt west point and need to harvest a doe before you can harvest a buck and Sterling Forest requires an hunting permit that you get after paying a 5 dollar fee

I actually have noticed there is usually about one vehicle parked on cox road every day and I think that is the roosa gap forest. The wurtsboro open space one is what seems to me to be a better spot because its off a semi dirt road(less traveled) and its surounded  by private property so I don't believe its hunted a lot. This is an assumption though considering I don't have a lot of time in these woods.

I hunted Bashakill last week. It's mostly swampland up by rt 17. I found a nice bedding area, with lots of tracks and droppings, but no deer all day. There are quite a few squirrels and ducks in there though. I took the Henry survival rifle with me for squirrels but came home empty handed! Only saw one other person in there all day. I'll probably go back for muzzle loader season after I get around to purchasing a ground blind. Let me know what any of the other places are like if you go.

I saw some bear tracks off COX road. It's a walk in area with state land signs. It was heavily pressured on opening weekend, but now there are 1 or 2 cars there. I'd love to get a bear. Hopefully this weekend.
