yea that's a big black bear! lol Now imagine being in the woods in early season with a bow and arrow.  Heavy brush surrounding you while you are miles up and around a mountain in a huge park that is infamous for bear hunting.  All the sudden the woods start to turn on you as a six sense kicks in and the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.  You feel a shiver of sorts run through your body as you suddenly realize the feeling is that your being watched.  At that moment everything you have learned in life becomes useless as you are faced with a new threat.  A threat you openly engaged and planned for.  You have entered the bears home now this is no longer your back yard and no cell phone service to call for help due to the iron deposits in the mountains!  Its at that point you test yourself on weather to move forward trusting yourself and your gear and the time and effort you put in to training with it.  Or you turn around and head back.  First time I came across fresh bear shit It scared the hell out of me.  Then when I found three piles of it right next to each other I decided to set up a tree stand lol  I hope to god that I get to harvest one in my lifetime.  To bag a 750+ pound black bear is an instant lifetime award and a place in the record books.  Taking one ethically is enough to have you shaking in fear before the shot.  Looks like he was using a slug gun or shotgun with a slug in it.  Enough to do the job at close range.  Remember black bears charge but rarely attack.  Shooting one through the scope of a high caliber rifle let alone a bow at 35mph is no easy task!  But survive and you have personally pitted yourself amongst the men who hunt and kill the apex predator..THE BEAR!!

 

I would have him stuffed standing on two feet and put him next to a rocking chair in my living room.  As the years go by we would share many stories as I would routinely have coffee in the morning and a glass of skotch in the evening time together.  As I grew older I hope to die next to such an amazing animal in that old chair next to that old bear lol lolololol  GET SOME!

2 years ago we had a very large bear running my property. I had to go to my lower tree stands to fix something. To get there you have travel trough some thick pines. I have a food plot off the side of the pines with a trail cam. It was 3:00 in the afternoon when I heard down. The next day I pulled the cards. At 3:05 that big bear is pictured heading down where I was. I always feel like that bear is watching me as I he'd through that area. Needless to say I always pack now.

lol good story lolol Yea I have to get a pistol permit I would love to have one on my side for protection just to play it safe.  Bear spray is great but nothing touches a sidearm in a slap off!

The only time I go to camp during bow is to strictly hunt bear...I have had them around but not close enough. I do know the thrill of having one with in a trucks width away...but was in my PJ's at the time...I opened the passenger door to get my hunting gear and he was standing leaning on the back corner of the king cab when he huffed at me. I'm 5'5'' and he was a tad taller than I...my mind kept saying jump in truck/run for door but my feet remained firmly planted as he went on all 4 and headed to the back of truck...Thank God I saw the outline of his body as he crunched through the dried oak leafs going away from me and my feet finally released me. I calmed down, ate, showered and prepared for my mile walk in the dark to the stand...bow in one hand and gutting knife in the other...about 60 or so feet down the drive the woods behind me exploded in screams and growls, trees snapping and just and awful commotion...I truly believe my body grew hair at that moment just so it could stand on end. It all stopped as quickly as it started and  I stood frozen in the dark thinking....that was somewhere between me and the road I was headed for, to swing around to walk to the stand. Well I continued...was a dripping mess when I got to the stand and sat for 12 hours...I never saw a single animal that day except a crow...I think they all heard what I did and did the smart thing. Stayed home and out of sight...lol Ya really can't beat the thrill though...every time I see one my heart taps out a tune in my ears.

yea man absolutely wild.  I always enter the woods while its pitch black I am obsessed with getting in my tree stand before the sun rises.  I haven't had a close encounter like that yet but I can only imagine! Its scary as hell let alone hearing them walk about in the woods and such breaking tree branches and barreling around in the dark!  Getting one in the day time has to be a challenge and I wish I get the chance to take an ethical shot on one!  Thanks for the story it was a great read!

That bear is a slob imagine trying to get that out of the woods with it a machine my bear was estimated at a little over 500lb and we had to cut it in half to get it out
