Culvercreek hunt club
They could also opt for an area more specific than a WMU for a ML hunt. cay by town out county inside a WMU
WNYBuckHunter
Im pretty sure thats what they were talking about last i read anything about it. Not a state wide thing. Heres the thing to remember, you need to manage your property as best you can. You will never control your neighbor, and what they choose to shoot, unless you have a high fence ranch with deer you own. You have to make harvest decisions for your property based on your goals, and what the carrying capacity and deer numbers are. Just because you have a tag, doenst mean you have to fill it, and just because we shoot 15+ deer a year off of our property, doesnt mean thats best for your property. The state simply cannot micro manage every piece of the state, its just not feasible.
gjs4
Agreed on what you can and can't manage. But either you complain about your neighbor or you are that one. To me, the dec does nothing for my deer management, archery experience or herd management. There are about 565000 big game hunters in this state. Can everyone be happy? No. Should one guy in albany make all the calls or send out 6000 randomly distributed surveys to dictate our deer season? Come on. Wise up boys and girls. Its all about dollars from license sales. Do you believe any of the magic numbers sent our way? How many believe that 1 in 2 bucks killed were 2.5 or older? As phase stated- bad things can (and in my opinion are inevitably going to) happen with this early ml season. The herd will be hit, the pressure sky high (guns in sept and the second week of oct for youth), buck poaching will have an ideal mechanism and for what?!?? gjs4
It's not about making everyone happy it's about managing the resource not the fees. I hunt and know multiple farms through out this county, as well as cover 45-50k miles in NY in a yr and the population of does does not appear to be the largest here. These folks are the ones using contraception in does on LI and a deer a day season i liberal central outside of Ithaca where there's no access. Flawed approaches from a lack of effort and knowledge. We deserve better for our license funds.
WNYBuckHunter
I dont complain about the neighbors unless they do stupid stuff. Last year I complained about one because of two of the deer he wounded with irresponsible, horrible shots that should have never been taken. As far as what they shoot, thats their call, who am I to judge? As long as they do it legally, and ethically, then its fine by me. Do I get bummed when they shoot young bucks? Sure, but Im not going to judge them for their choice. Am I one of those guys? I dont think so. I have my goals, and I really try to stick with them. Do I make mistakes from time to time, sure. Its a pretty unfair statement to say either you complain about your neighbor or you are the one they complain about. I just dont buy into all the doom and gloom. Hunting in this state has never been as good as it is now IMO. QDM is on the rise, guys are passing young bucks more and more, and educational organizations are doing a better job spreading the word. Again, my opinion based on what I persoanlly see around me.

gjs4
Didn't say the neighbor comment to you specifically just in general. My neighbors blow. Horrid conservationist let alone hunters. But if I say they'll shoot it so I might as well.... I am them. That's my point Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
