Buck scoring?

I have chatted with a few scorers and they where saying it is alot hard to measure a mount then then just the antlers themself. They can get a better measurement when the are doing the measurement from the base to the tips alot easier. Just trying to work around the ears and trying not to damage or mess up the mount. Its easier to move and pair of antlers around then a whole shoulder mount when doing the scoring.

OK, I'll agree with that. When they're fresh killed the ears just fold out of the way and they are flexible. Skull caps are actually a pain in the but because you don't have the weight of the deer to keep it from rolling and rocking on you. I would be worried about damaging some ones mount while scoring it.
