CVA Wolf issue

Does anyone else have a problem carrying their cva wolf across the chest?  I always hit the barrel release and it opens up while stalking.  Very annoying and I've lost several ramrods.

 

Looking to replace it for only that reason, and suggestions on a light, mid-priced muzzleloader with some type of quick release breach plug and NO barrel release in front of the trigger guard?

Never had that problem with my wolf I bought last year or buddy's I carried before that...seems like mech is awful loose....

I have had that happen when carrying it slung.  Do you have the model where the release lever hangs below the trigger guard, or the one where the knurled button is in front of the trigger guard?

Mine has the knurled button/lever immediately in front of the trigger guard.  I don't think it's a stiffness issue, just in the wrong location for the way I carry it.

 

I like to walk with the rifle cradled in the crook of my left arm barrel pointing left.  This puts the lever against my left arm which causes it to activate and pop the barrel open.

Yes, it's not an optimal design.  I have the same model.

I'm looking at the new LHR Redempton with the external threads on the breach plug and cerecoated to prevent corrosion.

 

Notably, it uses a break open shotgun type lever to open the barrel, no release anywhere near the trigger guard.

 

The only issue is it is heavy.

I switched to a T/C Hawken shooting patched round ball.  It's also a lot heavier than the CVA, but I don't really notice it anymore. 

 

I like the idea of the shotgun-style release.  Good luck accidentally popping that one open.

I would hold off on buying a lhr as they are being bought by an unknown company at this date. Look at the TC omega line , it's proven and it works

Just looked it up.  Being bought out and website for LHR is down.

Rumor is S and W bought it but I can't confirm that..if I were in the market I would buy a new omega, used white or even a knight ultra light or mountaineer...

I like the more traditional muzzleloaders, however, I do have a T/C Omega and I am very happy with it when it does comes out.  Never any problems carrying it, shooting it, or cleaning it.  No matter what I stuff into it, it groups good.

Dang ! I have a new Wolf I'll be using this season, and I cradle-carry all the time! I'll have to rethink my carry style for now perhaps.
