G-Man
You can tell a few varieties by taste, looking at the color of skin ,shape of apple , and color of flesh, and consistency of flesh, and when they drop. Being so early I would guess early mac ,and by age of trees I would guess 30 year old semi dwarf trees , that w as a popular apple at that time. Will make a good sauce and juice, and good eating, may want to mix it with granny smith or northern spy if your putting in a pie as the flesh is not very firm and you'd be making an apple sauce pie.

Cbrown06
Actually, Biz, the only way to tell for sure is to eat one.... After an hour, if your crotch starts to itch like crazy, they were CRAB apples.... LMAO! Even my wife laughed at that one! Thanks for the sore gut!
