t_barb
I was very fortunate to pick-up a John Deere 246 Corn Planter this weekend for a very reasonable price. It is in really good shape and everything functions as intended. I even got the original user guide and extra plates to go with it. I am wondering if anyone has any experience using one of these planters... Any words of wisdom worth sharing? I am curious to know how you regulate the flow of fertilizer.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Looking forward to putting it to use in the spring.
SplitG2
does it look like a 294? i have 1240 and 71flex. I just keep everything greased and make sure its cleaned after the season. I also cover them over the fall and winter.
G-Man
I have a 246, the fert is regulated by the plate under the fert hopper, a door slides in or out with adjustment screw (I'm assuming you have dry fertilizer hoppers) big thing is controling the depth of planting done with top bar adjust and your 3pt top link, you want constant pressure on drive wheels, if you rototill you may want to roll ground first at tilling fluffs soil to much, remember to check your seed plate with size of seed to make sure it feed seeds with out cracking then
