My white whale

So I came up again this weekend to pick up my snowmobile and hunt a other weekend.

I didn't see anything this morning. Got the snowmobile this morning put it in the garage and decided to load the wood ring. A neighbor stopped by on his old 89 quad.

I heard him puttering up the trail. He lives about 1/4 mile away from me and between us is swamp and thick trees that you can't even walk through

As we are talking I see movement deep in the woods. I tell him turn around and look their is a deer walking right there walking in the woods. I tell him I think it has antlers. I wasn't going to look any further.

I said to him you know what I am going to grab my gun and circle around the woods on my quad see what that is. I was gone. I got off the quad and start walking towards my tree stand to where i think the deer will be going to be. As I am walking down my towards my tree stand I can see the deer out of the corner of my eye at 75 yards looking straight at me stock still. I duck behind a tree adjust my scope from 3 to 9 to confirm its not a big doe. Well there he was. He is the same deer that walked within 10' of me a week before opening day and same guy that I had in my sites on opening day and my gun didn't shoot. It was dirty. 1 shot it was over and good thing he ran 2 steps and dropped. DONE. When I tried to shoot a location shot for my neighbor to find me the gun again just clicked. Not the best hunting story. I do wish I did get him from my hunting stand but I look at it this way.

1-he walked with in 10' of me week before opening day

2-I had him in my sites on opening day and gun didn't work

3- I came back again for another weekend

4- he was shot right in the middle of my small property

The last picture is him the week before opening day walking 10' from me.

He is the king of our mountain area. I said a prayer and thank God and the deer. For a safe and rewarding season. I spend a lot of weekends scouting looking etc. He will be mounted. He is 205 lbs after field dressed.
