Unearthed a huge

Recommended Posts

Boulder in the upper plot today...I was out weeding around the crucibles and dug out some serious rocks. Then I hit one that wouldn't come out. Had the shovel so started digging looking for the sides...Dang it this will give the backhoe a bit of a fight...right at the surface......Even when I get it out I'll have to back fill the hole with dirt I bring in. Got lucky on that one...should have taken a disc or two this spring. I Just got that plot dried out...even on dry years, that was always a damp pasture for the goats...It'll be my luck To dig the dang thing out and open an underground spring...lol

we've picked rocks to seed reseed hay fields  seems you always get one the you end up making a messed.  you've got to push it with the 90HP loader or a couple have needed the dozer.  some spots with ledge you just learn to go around and not engage the earth as deep around it.  you can deal with that stuff.  it's the smaller stuff that's just the right size that get jammed in between the discs that are a problem.

sounds like you're having a fun time.

Ya I have one of those on the edge of the clover plot...I just mow around it...this one though...is right in the front center of the plot...Next year I have some ditch work to do so I'll hit it with the bucket...Mr B said I'll take it with the dozer blade....I think that may cause more compaction then I want...the field has a red clay vein running through it...I have broken up and disced in green manure to free up the root area. I don't' want to have the dozer pack it up tight on me...the soil still has a few years of work that needs to be done to get it the way I want...I'm surprised I didn't find this before...I planted corn and turnips there over the last couple of years..Even used the small tiller to make corn rows...it's only a few inches under the surface....3-4 foot wide . This means it is more than likely at least that deep...the big rock I dug out was only 10 inches wide but 18 inches deep. That thing was heavy enough...ya think it was made of lead....lol
