HectorBuckBuster
Wow, I guess I never knew they could bait for bear in NY up till 9 days before season.
solon
generally speaking i'm not a fan of baiting - but with bears you might as well hang it up without it - no where in Canada does a guided bear hunt not include baiting. Must be NY is smarter that Canada
steve863
I think baiting bear 9 days before the season was another one of those little known rules, just like being able to go on unposted private land in that other thread. Got to say that I'll give it to hunters for finding every darned loophole imaginable around the rules to make things easier for themselves! LOL Did those bear hunters make sure they got rid of every scrap of donuts and other food they put out for bears 8 days before the season opened?? I sort of doubt it. There are a number of places in Canada where bears are hunted by spot and stalk or with dogs and baiting is not used.
MuzzyLoader
Wow, I guess I never knew they could bait for bear in NY up till 9 days before season. I never knew that either - and now that I have, THEY go and change the rules! I just can't seem to catch a break!!!
BizCT
Never hunted Bear in NY, but what if you bring a dozen dunkin donuts, etc as your lunch....and leave it open next to you to snack on all day?

This might work. Maybe if you had a receipt from DD's dated 9 days before opening day the DEC officer wouldn't have a problem with it. I guess he won't be buying it with this new rule in effect, however. Maybe if we offer him a donut he might look the other way?? Worth a try I guess.
