The original "Republican" party was called the "Democratic-Republican" party, and was started by Thomas Jefferson. Todays Democratic party has always been just that. The South was predominately Democrat back then, and the North was predominately Democratic-Republican, aka Republican. The modern Liberal core of the Democratic party took off during the Great Depression. You might want to brush up a bit on your history. Just sayinI'll be sure to read up on it more. I haven't really spoken about it since first semester in college and for the last 3 years I've been taking mostly science classes.
