Spring birds

I have my first redwings and my first grackles of the season at my feeders this morning...

Late last week I saw a bluebird, so I spent Monday morning cleaning out my bluebird boxes...To my surprise I only had to evict one white-footed mouse from one of my 20 nest boxes...In past years I usually found a dozen or more..

I did mine the other day as well...what a wet mess they were...pried the doors open to dry out...Angel had fun chasing the mice that flung themselves out the door.

There's a pair if killdeer here already they normally show up the week after st. Patrick's day. The goose pair is scouting around for a nesting area. Even the red tails are paired up.

Another sure sign of spring, one of the cats from down the road woke me up at 3:45 this morning with that god-awful, horny wailing just outside our bedroom window. He must've been packing, because my cat ran in the house when I opened the door.

Next will be the annual raccoon raids on our chicken coop.
