May be some good news....

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure how much cold it takes to kill tent caterpillars but we will be in the 20's tonight and the teens tomorrow night. I was out working and looking up in the trees to find groups of tent caterpillars bunched up on the trunks and branch crotches of the trees they hatched in those latest warm spells we had...... perhaps this will be a good year for the trees....

Not sure what you mean Lawd...with them hatched and the freezing weather coming in for a few days...it should kill them. At least some should

I think he's talking about the warm/cold spells and possibility they bud to soon,

Yes, Zag is correct.

Growie.....I was typing quick and not paying attention, I should have been more specific.  What do you think all this cold weather will do to the mast crop and fruit trees this year?  Should I just forget about hunting the oak ridges AGAIN this year?

Well Here there is a swell in all the fruit trees but. Not enough for damage yet...it's the winds that are reeking havoc with the hazelnut  catkins . Nearly all our reds produced last year.I'm not expecting much this year but winds and weather may keep things on the light side for 2018. Our altitude keeps us usually 2 weeks behind everyone else as far as blossom. We barely hit  forty by 5 pm yesterday..then temps dropped fast.

We have bigger issues with the bugs and fungi here...it's 21  and very windy...I hope it knocked down some bugs. When they hatch they are tiny...So for me to see the clumps of them that I did..means there were way too many. Very surprised to see this so very early..
