noodle one
Went down to the Delaware River the first day of season fishing with bait with my pin and noodle rod. No bites, and no fish. The only thing I got that first day was a very wet and cold foot. First time wearing new pair of chest waders and the boot was leaking. Called Cabela's to order another pair. sending the leaking pair back for credit. This morning went back down wearing my old waders, and took my spinning outfit and some Rapala's. After two or three cast I got my first and only hook up of the morning. A nice brown male with a big hook jaw. I would guess 5 or 6 lbs. and 24" to 25" ins. I should have left then, because that was it for the morning. I stayed until noon and saw two other browns taken. Both of then were 15" to 16" ins and both of them were taken with Rapala's. Well tomorrow is another day to give it a try.

noodle one
Pygmy , any time you are headed down this way and are looking for a place to fish ,let me know and I can show a few spots. nyantler, I use to have my camera with me all the time, I have taken so many pictures of trout they all start to look the same. The fish today is not my best from the Delaware, I have taken a few in the 28" in. size. A little later on when the weather warms up , the fish average 18" to 22" in. , afew a little smaller and some a little bigger. The best fish taken out was three years ago when my son took one 31" ins. 8 lbs. I have hooked up on a few that where big and couldn't land them. In a week and a half ,my son is coming in from CA. to do some fishing and we are going up to the Salmon River for steelhead and big browns and I will have my camera with me then. If we have any luck I will show some pictures then. I am a C/R fisherman . I don't keep any thing unless it is bleeding. Today when I landed that one the other guys there could not believe that I released it. I think the reason I catch so many and good size is that I catch the same fish day after day. MountainHunter
Hi Noodle, East Branch or West Branch. I live in the catskills and have been venturing further attempting to find better quality fishing. The Esopus has really eroded as a quality stream which is unfortunate as it is right in my back yard,(actually a ten minute drive) Any way I am looking for better quality fishing. I would like to try other area's where there are larger fish and greater numbers of natives. Congratulations on your nice fish.
noodle one
Scot, I fish the West Branch Delaware. There are some nice fish, (browns and rainbows) Sometimes if you are lucky you pick up 1 or 2 big ones. The fish in the west branch are suppose to be all wild fish ,because they do not stock it. I am petty sure that there are a few stocked fish in there because, most of the small streams that run into the Delaware are stocked. When you talk about native trout, are you talking about native brook trout, if so, the last time I caught one was many years ago and it was a stocked trout from a small stream just up the river from me. So if you are looking for native brooks, you will have go some place else.
erussell
Use to get nice browns out of the no kill area below the 17 bridge on black woolly buggars and big streamers. Seen a few in there that looked as long as my leg sipping tiny little midges off the surface. Pretty funny a brown that big would still eat something that small. MountainHunter
Thanks Noodle I was not referring to Brook Trout. I am just looking for area's that would enable me to have more opportunity at larger non stocked trout. I can get to sections of the West Branch within an hour and fifteen minutes. I would drive up Route 28 and Drop down through Andes in the Deposit or Delancey Area. Or I could Drive out to Walton but that would be considerably farther. I fished the Margaretville area of the East Branch last Sunday and only caught one fish,a 17.5 inch Brown that I am assuming was a hold over stocked trout,it had very little color, but no cut fin on it's belly. Just looking to expand my horizons and get in to some better fishing.
