Like anything else that has moving parts, breakage will eventually occur. The majority of cameras will fail because of other issues such as moisture entry, electrical issues, etc. But as a rule, I wouldn't buy a camera if it's had really high pic count for its age - usually those are cameras set out over feeders or mineral licks and sit there just taking pic after pic and are in the elements year-round.
