Steve D
DEC Accepting Applications for Day-Old Pheasant Chick Program The application period for the cooperative Day-Old Pheasant Chick Program has begun. The program provides day-old pheasant chicks to approved cooperators, who raise the birds and release them on land open to public hunting. The program is a partnership among DEC, hunters, 4-H youth, and landowners to enhance pheasant hunting opportunities throughout New York. Day-old pheasant chicks are available at no cost to participants who are able to provide a brooding facility, a covered outdoor rearing pen, and an adequate release site. Approved applicants will receive the day-old chicks in April, May, or June. All release sites must be approved in advance by DEC and must be open for public pheasant hunting opportunities. The program is funded through the State Conservation Fund from license fees paid by hunters, trappers, and anglers. If you are interested in this program, applications must be filed with a DEC Regional Wildlife Manager by March 25, 2018. Applications and the "Pheasant Rearing Guide" are available on the DEC website. If you have questions about the program, please contact Reynolds Game Farm at (607) 273-2768 or e-mail [email protected], subject line: "Day-Old Pheasant Chick Program." Please see our press release for more details.
landtracdeerhunter
The program worked very well, years ago. I still use the old pheasant coop for firewood storage.
