Not at all. First, you do not know what horrible ailments my dear family members have suffered so please do not assume I am immune from the pains of illness. My statement was directed only to his atheism. But I do wonder...did Mr. Hawking ever wonder if it was divine intervention that allowed him to live so long and be productive through his horrible illness?  Certainly it was not physics that saved him.

I am FAR ftom a bible thumper; however, I take great offense to scholars that make believers feel as if we are gullible morons.

maybe not physics, but modern medicine for sure.

Now my personal take on these sorts of topics is that there is a supreme being out there and that this being has provided us with the tools and resources to cure disease and illness. I don't believe you can pray away cancer, but i do believe God has given us the tools to try and defeat it. I don't believe in creationism, but I believe that God built the foundation for the world we have today and the framework for evolution. I bet someone like Hawking may not believe in such a theory, but I also doubt they would outright dismiss it as possible.
