Blustery morning

Headed out with Flushing Bailey Lynn this morning. And flush she did three roosters were put up. It’s time for me to get another pair of hips boots though as the were going out over the cattails and I don’t want to put her in a situation where she can’t retrieve the bird as they can prove difficult due to their size. Missed a rabbit and couldn’t shoot at two more as she runs them so close. We will be shifting our concentration to ruffed grouse in the coming weeks. Should be a good season ahead and her retrieving can shine with the smaller birds.

Nothing I love more than a day small game hunting! Unfortunately  around here, good rabbit country is tough to find. I used to monkey around with pheasants, but no longer have my setter. Maybe again, one day. That does leave squirrels though, which are allways fun!

Yes squirrels are always fun and my daughters favorite. The rabbit hunting around here isn’t too bad but not my primary target either. My cocker busts them out well though and mostly forces them to open fields.

Are they having the " Squirrel Slam" in Holley this year.  Never heard how the judge ruled.

As far as I know. It isn’t highly publicized by the fire department at this point. And the protester numbers have dropped in the past few years. But still proves to be a good fundraiser for the fire department.
