Anything written by Stephen Ambrose is a terrific read. I think I have read all but 2 of hiss works.

Someone should snap this up, I wouldn't give away my copy.

If you like Western US history the book on parallels between Crazyhorse and Custer is a good place to start.

I read the multi volume Nixon set last, and its long, and you have to be interested in politics. But interesting behind the scenes  info on what made that period in US history tick.
