South Dakota bow hunter coming to New York for work and have to hunt here!!

    Hello Bloodbrothers,

    I'm going to be in Albany area very soon, actually on the 28th of Aug. I  have done a little research and see that your bow season starts Sept 21 for  Deer and Bear. Well-being an bow addict I just have to fill my need to hunt. So  if you great people can give me some clues as to where some public land areas  to hang a tree stand that would be great.

    Really looking forward to hunting NY State for deer and bear. I have two  bows both Mathews they are Switchback and Monster and I love both of them. I  will be using my monster here in NY.

    Anyway great to see a site dedicated to all my fellow hunters and  huntresses. Hope to meet some of you folks and swap some stories heck maybe  even a few beers and some back straps.

Welcome Kevin,

The new license year for the tags you will be getting starts on October 1st in the Norther Zone. Souther zone archery opens in mid October. The NZ is loaded with state land. Some very large counrty up there and the hunting of those large tracts can be quite a challenge.

Try this site ...It is a state land locator and can be used to view different areas. Might cut down on some of your leg work.

NZ opener is Sept 27 not 21. But only if you have an unused qualifying tag from last year.

Welcome aboard! Definitely check out the DEC web site. There are a few public areas for hunting not too far away from Albany. Get out there and scout. Good luck.
