Salmon Run?

Anyone going out for the Salmon/steelhead run this fall? Being new to the area I have never done it before but I think I'm going to pick up a 8wt fly rod and give it a whirl. Looks like it cold be a lot of fun.

I go up in the spring for steelhead, I center pin so I use a 13 foot noodle rod for float fishing. I am not big on salmon fishing. I am not into fly fishing so I can not say what the best wt. rod would be. Good luck and tight lines.

The salmon river is in my back yard. There has been a great run of coho salmon this year. I Fish for salmon a lot and I would suggest a 10 wt. You will have worn out arms fighting a big salmon on the 8wt. There have been a lot of steelhead and few browns in the mix this fall already as well. Salmon fishing isn't as sporting as most fishing in a river but it still a bit of fun. Steelhead on the river in the winter is phenomenal.

Oh man that Salmon Run wine is nasty stuff. I had someone give me a case of it and we opened one at christmas dinner and all of us couldnt drink it. Gave the whole case away minus one opened bottle.

I am headed up on the 10/21 with my Son for some fishing on the South Sandy. I also prefer Steelhead over Salmon.

I hear the salmon are still in there and the steelhead are running strong!!I have caught some monsters this year..

Yes the salmon are still in not fresh ones but salmon none the less. Steelheads and Browns are in pretty good.

I took my daughter and granddaughter up to the Salmon River on 10/29.

My granddaughter brought in a 12 lb steelhead and my daughter landed a 17 lb salmon.

I was fishing with Tom Burke of Cold Steel Sportfishing.

Nice fish man..And congrats on your little ne getting a fish.I went up a ton of times and have caught some monsters i will try to upload a pic of some of the huge salmon i caught i belive 46 punds was the biggest one!!And the older guy that cut it up couldn't belive his eyes!!

Yea looks like it worked.That was a 35lbs + king salmon i caught on a beautiful morning a few weeks ago!!I will be out there soon to try for some steelheads and big browns!!

I have a tributarie in my back yard, lotsa salmon still trucking up thru. caught 3 last friday.

Lived less than an hour away my whole life and never tried it. I would not know where to begin! Would love to catch some but I drive by and see hundreds of guys lined up elbow to elbow and think that does not look like fun.

Man its pretty fun and yes there are hundreds of people.I get there before the crack of dawn that way i can claim my spot!Some people have no repsect for you if you do have a fish on others take their line out for a min.I dont even eat the fish either i give they away because lots of people love em.Or i let em go to live another day!!

I just go out back behind my house, not so many people there, nice perk growing up and living on the Salmon river. I start salmon fishing early in the season and quit when northern bow opens. Best steelhead fishing is anytime after Jan 1. everyones gone and theres are plenty of 12 plus fish days if you can handle the cold.

If you caught a 46 pound salmon on the SR I hope you got that certified on a good set of certified scales who knows it could of went bigger. The record is 47 lbs 13 oz caught in 1991. The biggest fish entered in this years tournament was 35lbs and the guy took home over 2 grand in cash for it. Biggest one I ever caught was last year 47 7/8 inches long and 41lbs 11 oz. Dec took the skull and scale samples.

I didn't enter in the durby but i went to the shop in altmar ny and weighted it right in front of the older man who cuts em up he couldnt belive it.I have had caught at least 15 fish that were 35 plus {and thats no lie}.I was up there a lot its a great way to wait for deer season!!

I trust me I believe you I have seen alot of slobs over the years. Salmon that is lol. I was dumbfounded that a 35 pound salmon won the derby. Hell I released bigger fish than that this year. But it was my neighbor who won it anyways and he has a handicap so I was glad to see him get it.

Haha just asking i couldnt belive my eyes when i seen a one armed guy reeling in a 30 pound fish!!It was great and i got to net it fr him haha ill never forget that!!
