Reloading Lever Actions

Recommended Posts

So i have been thinking about getting a lever action for a while now and probably will before this years deer season. I have gotten into reloading and would reload what ever i decided to go with either a marlin 444 or 338 marlin express. I am aware that you cannot load tipped bullets in the tubular magizenes besides the Leverevolution line. So what kinds of bullets are safe to load in the 338 platform?

There are a lot of bulletts availiable , flatnose from 240 grain to 400 grain leverevolution bulletts are also available . just try to stay away from pistol bullets! they are made to expand at slower speeds and will disinigrate at a rifles higher velocities. Any good reloading guide will give you the kind of bullets and loads. i prefer lyman's as they will give several different manufactures bulletts unlike hornady's reloading guide. i've been reloading a 45-70 gov for a few years now and have used a lot of different bulletts, i use a 454. 350 grain catsul flatnose bullet in them for bear. and just started reloading the rubber nosed bulletts from hornady. they do fly flatter and raise my point of impact 4 in at 100 yards.

any flat or round nosed bullet should be fine. Rounds such as the 30-30 or 45-70 (common in the tube fed lever actions) usuallly are listed as such in the reloading manuals. I have never seen a relaoding book list a pointed bullet (unsure if the newer ones list the Leverevolusion rounds).
