the blur
I hunt in a state park, with permission. The permission slip says Deer only. What if I shoot a bear because I felt my life was in danger ? Do I leave it in the woods? or drag it out and face Prosecution ? Sometimes the jolly ranger is there, and sometimes not....... It's nice if the ranger is there, because he'll help drag the deer out. The bear population is high, but for what ever reason, they do Not want bears taken. So there is a chance of kicking one up. Especially if it's warm in Novemeber.
MuzzyLoader
I've always heard it's better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. I hope you get a deer early.
Ford
I guess you are talking about NY? If that is the case we are talking Black Bears. They usually run away. I dont think you even have to worry about it. If you did shoot one in self defense, I would imagine that it would be looked at rather closely, and they would make a determination on wether you should be prosecuted or not. Black Bears are way more afraid of us than we are of them (well most of us). One of the guys hunting the property next to mine shot a bear a few years ago, before it was legal, he tried to claim self-defense. The DEC did not believe his story. Double lunging the bear did not help. He lost his license for a few years.
G-Man
self defence your shot will down its throat, or front of chest... ususally they will run the other direction .... being close or afraid of them is not self defence...
