drlfc
Has anyone hunted for these sheep in September? Looking for gear, footwear and optics recommendations. This will be a 1 on 1 guided hunt on 650,000 acres southwest of Odessa, TX.

airedale
A few weeks ago I watched Steve Rinella do a Texas Aoudad hunt on his "Meateater" outdoor TV show. The terrain was open loose rocky scrub country with moderate hills. A couple of things stood out, these sheep blend into their surroundings almost perfectly, they are very hard to spot and are very wary. A lot of time was spent glassing with both binoculars and a spotting scope to pick them out so good quality optics are paramount. With the country being so open and those sheep having excellent eyesight getting real close to them will be tough, long shots are probably the norm. An accurate flat shooting light sporter that fires a caliber of moderate power will get the job done if you do your part. Lightweight boots with good rock traction soles along with being in good physical condition will make climbing that terrain much easier and go along way in making your hunt successful. Good luck to you, I hope you score on a big one. Al
