WNYBuckHunter
6 days and counting until I stop thinking about deer hunting for a few months and start getting after the predators! I am planning on hitting them up with the first night hunt next Wednesday after work. Hopefully I can put a couple more on the ground without losing them through the ice this year. Ive already had the 223 out and shooting a bit here and there.
Caveman
I've already declared it predator season since I've just become disgusted with the weather for deer. I hunt them with the 17hmr though. Can't take the long shots but I can shoot the squirrels I see and still take some meat home.
tughillhunter
I have never done any predator hunting. I would like to though, especially since im laid off most of the winter. I have a 220 swift. Think thats a good weapon of choice?

chrismgon
Got any good tips on hunting yotes? I hear them around. I've tried the rabbit distress call, it does not work like the CD of Tim Wells it came with (knight and hale) lol. I saved a bucket of blood/parts from my deer kills in the freezer, so hope to bait em. Though I much rather try the calling. What times do you hunt for predator? Lights? Thanks in advance! Im just learning the ropes myself. This is my 3rd or 4th year of really going after them. Ive had mixed success. Baiting isnt usually a quick thing, youll want to use something along the lines of a roadkill deer sitting in a spot for a few days usually does good. I use rechargeable LED spotlights (ill get you the name of them later) and e-callers at night and add a decoy during daylight or dawn/dusk hunts. Get good camo (snow camo for when theres snow on the ground) and stay as still as you can, but make sure to scan the area with your eyes constantly. Also play the wind, they will try to get downwind of you ASAP, and you will not beat their nose with any amount of scent reduction, though I use it anyway.
