Rev Ev
So I am thinking about buying the 1187 Super Mag with the turkey package, and then later on buying a deer barrel and a waterfowl barrel. I just wanted to make sure that I can do this. I tried calling Remington, but they have been on vacation most of the week. My real questions are: 1. Are the deer and the waterfowl barrels readily available? An internet search doesn't turn up much on the waterfowl barrel. 2. Anyone else switch out barrels and have any suggestions? 3. Can you buy the turkey barrel seperately somewhere else? Dicks has a sale on the 1187 SM but its in waterfowl package.
Pygmy
So you're considering buying the gun with 3 barrels...?? I think you are overcomplicating things, Rev... In the first place, I don't think the Supermag is necessary. In many cases 3.5 inch loads are overkill. I have never been in a turkey hunting or waterfowl hunting situation where 2 3/4 or 3 " shells didn't get the job done at any reasonable range. My suggestion would be to buy a standard, 3" 11-87 with a 26" choke tube barrel. That would serve you well for turkeys, waterfowl and small game. Then if you desire, buy a rifled slug barrel for deer. Edited December 23, 2011 by Pygmy
WNYBuckHunter
I agree with Pygmy. Slug barrels are readily available for that gun.
Early
I have an 11-87 with the 26" barrel Pygmy recommends...I love it! For my slug barrel, I bought the 21" smoothbore with rifle sights and RemChoke threads. With an IC choke, it makes a great deer gun for the type of hunting I do. With a turkey choke, it is dynamite on turkeys.
